North Carolina Is Engaging in Insane Jim CrowStyle Voter Suppression, Says Federal JudgeBy Mark Joseph Stern NOV. 3 2016 10:21 AM
U.S. District Judge Loretta Biggs slammed an ongoing North Carolinian voter purge during a dramatic Wednesday hearing, telling county attorneys that she was horrified by the insane process by which voters could be removed from the rolls without their knowledge.
It almost looks like a cattle call, the way people are being purged, Biggs said. This sounds like something that was put together in 1901, when the state used Jim Crow laws to prevent black citizens from casting a ballot.
Biggs called a hearing after the NAACP sued several North Carolina counties for purging nearly 6,700 votersmost of them black Democratsfrom the rolls. These purges were legal under a state law that permits any person to revoke any other persons voting rights.

I admit it's tempting to give the reTHUGS a taste of their own medicine because it's the only way they learn their lesson, but 2 wrongs =/= 1 right.

(7,639 posts)It's an unprincipled thing to do, but it always seems to work for them and that's why they do it. They don't seem to suffer any real blowback either - except with principled people like us who are often sidelined in the large scale public awareness.
The media used to be the guardians of liberty and fairness. Stuff like this would once be front page news and covered and pushed into public's conscientiousness on the nightly news by people like Dan Rather. Oh, but wait - that's right, he was ratfucked by the same unprincipled goons wasn't he? And look what happened to him.
Today, as you well know, the MSM is just infotaintment. It's all about the $$ and enriching the corporatists who seem to have a grip on power and a large part of the Government and they don't play fair anymore. I wish they did.
The legal system is now our best and really, our only weapon in this dogfight with the RW who never play fair and sold whatever principles they once had long ago.
I hope we ultimately win in a fair fight and that we're not principled out of existence at some point.

(2,143 posts)when she issues it, I predict. I have seen and heard her in action for many years in many settings. I have no doubt her written decision will be well thought out, and as favorable to voters as the law will allow.
By the way, I voted early. It felt so good to vote for Hillary Clinton. Can't wait to do it again in 4 years.

The stories about NC just keep rolling out. All of them straining credibility. But I do believer the reports.
This election keeps uncovering sexism and racism that I thought had simmered down. Apparently just went underground.

Hard to put anyone if jail over it when the SCOTUS gave them a free pass to deny american citizens of their right to vote.
