2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHere is John Podesta's statement just released to the press.
Podesta is Hillary's campaign chair:
"FBI Director Comey should immediately provide the American public more information than is contained in the letter he sent to eight Republican committee chairmen. Already, we have seen characterizations that the FBI is 'reopening' an investigation but Comey's words do not match that characterization. Director Comey's letter refers to emails that have come to light in an unrelated case, but we have no idea what those emails are and the Director himself notes they may not even be significant.
"It is extraordinary that we would see something like this just 11 days out from a presidential election.
"The Director owes it to the American people to immediately provide the full details of what he is now examining. We are confident this will not produce any conclusions different from the one the FBI reached in July."

(2,620 posts)be removed with "cause".
It seems to me that gross incompetence is "cause" enough.

(182 posts)Would require dereliction, failure of duty, incompetence(how)....doing a job is not incompetence.
AG Lynch has not suggested firing the Director that I know of.

(2,620 posts)at this late hour - a candidate for high office.
Again, if he has some evidence, make the charge(s), otherwise, he should shut the hell up until he can produce evidence.
My two cents...

(4,533 posts)Neither the chairman of the federal reserve bank nor the head of the FBI may be fired by the President. Once appointed they serve for a fixed term of 10 years. The President may not reappointed the head of the FBI. A special law was passed permitting President Obama to reappointed Director Muellar for 2 additional years so he could complete his investigation into the attack on Sept 11.

(30,058 posts)Then he can't be trusted to do a through investigation. His actions leaves a void in trusting the ability of the FBI to properly investigate.

(26,045 posts)It only indicates that HRC's own campaign is clueless about what's going on, and, in so doing, serves only to deflate information (Only three e-mails? Not from Clinton?) that might go counter to the emerging media narrative. If all you can do is demand information (that you're unlikely to get), you're not defending the campaign, you're throwing up your hands and failing to do so.
Where's James Carville when we really need him? He'd have had a "rapid response team" out there in front of the story. By failing to do so, Podesta is only giving the impression that there must be something to the Republican spin after all.

(26,045 posts)not just an impassioned repeat of everyone else's questions. Saying "we have no idea what's there, but are confident we'll be cleared in the long run" is meaningless when they're unlikely to get those answers until long after the election. This just means that undecided voters will assume the worst when casting their ballots.

(440 posts)The repubs are sinking fast, & desperate times, call for desperate measures. In this case, was a horrible decision, & one that had I been an undecided voter, would not want to vote for a party that plays this nasty game. Shame on all of them, from beginning to end. It's also a positive sign that, Hillary is a major threat to the repubs, & they are going down hard!
