Organize to pressure Congress: Pass the Obama agenda!

This is hugely important.

From a headline article in today's nytimes.

Please, let's do it! Go to:

In 2009, after Obama's people had built the most effective nationwide campaign organization ever seen, I thought: they've got to use this to keep the pressure on Congress to act.

Just one word from them could have buried Congress with a million letters and emails urging them to support Obama's proposals.

They would have to use it carefully - only for proposals that enjoy broad public support, rather than narrow-interest legislation or old divisive issues (such as abortion).

But for issues that Congress thinks nobody knows or cares: they could have woken Congress up!  The jobs stimulus. Ending the tax cuts for the wealthy. Regulating the big banks. The Dream Act. Obamacare.  Consumer protection. There could have been a million emails or more on each of these, if only someone had organized it.

Instead, in 2009 it seemed they turned the Obama organization over to mindless fund-raisers. Having given them my email - gladly and eagerly - I found I was getting 3 emails per week asking for money, nothing else. I put up with it as long as I could - more than a year - before taking my name off the list.

Meanwhile the Tea Party flooded the town-hall meetings of my Congressman - a venerable 80-year-old and long supporter of health care - with gun-toting assholes who threatened to castrate him if he dared vote to tax their precious investment income to provide healthcare for  "them".

I didn't even hear of it until afterwards - and the huge numbers of Obama activists in our district disn't show up.

All we needed was to be asked.

So I hope everyone will go to http://BarackObama.com. Fill out their survey asking for feedback from supporters. They ask for comments - please  tell them that we are ready and waiting to participate in an effort to put organized, focused pressure on Congress.

I'm sure we are all willing to send letters, emails, and call our Congress-person, Senator, or others to tell them: pass the bill. End the filibuster. Close the tax loophole. Act on jobs. Pass the bill! Let's do it!! For now, let's all tell the Obama people: we are just waiting for a word to participate in an organized letter, email or phone bombing of Congress.

Here's the article in today's nytimes:

-------
WASHINGTON — When Tea Party activists swamped town hall-style meetings about health care in the summer of 2009, President Obama’s army of campaign volunteers largely stayed away, seemingly less interested in fighting for legislation than they had been in electing the nation’s first African-American president.

Now, Mr. Obama is seizing a second chance to keep his election-year supporters animated.

With lawmakers scheduled to return to work on Monday to begin intense discussions before a looming fiscal deadline, Mr. Obama’s aides are trying to harness the passions that returned him to the White House, hoping to pressure Republicans in Congress to accept tax increases on the wealthy. The president’s strategists are turning first to the millions of e-mail addresses assembled by the campaign and the White House.

Already, supporters are being asked to record YouTube videos of themselves talking about the importance of raising taxes on the rich. Aides said those videos would be shared on Facebook and Twitter and would be forwarded to centrist Democrats, as well as to mainstream Republicans, who they hope will break with their Tea Party colleagues.
