2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI voted today in a hard-right almost totally RED town in Texas.
I've voted at the courthouse in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and today. In every case before today, the place was crawling with voters during early voting and the results were heavily Republican. I voted today and walked right in, got my voting number and was given a machine. I was in and out in a little more than 5 minutes.
I'd say that Republicans aren't very excited to vote this year.

(144 posts)but the fault lies squarely with the GOP/Trump camp.

(17 posts)I'm in a bright red rural county bordering Oklahoma and voted Monday, the first day we could. No lines, and I've definitely noticed a dearth of Trump yard signs, significantly fewer than for GOPers in past elections.
Voted D in every race a D ran, voted Libertarian in the one race no D was running against the R (sadly not uncommon around here). I want Rs punished for nominating Trump.
I was a kid when we had great Texas Democrats like Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan, and Jim Hightower in power. Looking forward to a return of those days. From what I've heard, we aren't so much a red state as a non-voting state, so the dedicated reds run the place. Hoping this race will start to change that.

(5,901 posts)One of the highlights of my life! So many great Texas Democrats have passed on including Molly Ivins, John Henry Faulk, Ann Richards, Billie Carr and Billy Goldberg. Jim Hightower is still with us and working hard!
I've been wondering if Wendy Davis will run against Ted Cruz in 2018.

(17 posts)I was so disappointed in the numbers Wendy Davis got in the 2014 gubernatorial election... Here I thought this was finally our chance. But she lost even among Texas women - such a shock. Abbott was very clear about being against women's choice, yet he won among Texas women anyway. Honestly, as a man, I'm not sure how to process that.

(16,937 posts)is NOT a bad thing!
First, it helps assure Drumpf will NOT be elected.
Second, and perhaps every bit as important, it could swing the Senate to the Dem side and we might stand a chance of getting something done!

(1,728 posts)Went with my dad on Monday. It took us longer to find a parking spot downtown than it did to go in and vote.

(14,856 posts)I helped my blind brother fill out his all-Democrat absentee ballot, and I checked online to see if it was received and approved (yes).
Then I checked my sister and her husband. They likewise requested absentee ballots weeks ago, but they haven't been received by their board of elections yet. They both claimed that they would NOT vote for Trump, but they don't seem very eager to vote period.
I didn't see ANY Republican volunteers when I voted early in-person this year. There were many Clinton volunteers outside of the 100' barrier of the polling place.
