Trump Has Spent More on Hats Than Pollinghttps://politicalwire.com/2016/10/25/trump-spent-hats-polling/
"SNIP............
Donald Trumps presidential campaign has spent $1.8 million on polling from June 2015 through September of this year (the most recent month for which data are available.) The report also lists $3.2 million spent on hats, the Washington Post reports.
Trump has probably spent more on hats than he has spent on direct mail. The campaign filings occasionally aggregate a few things from the same vendor under one line-item, so some of the hat spending was on collateral generally that includes some hats. (His campaign spent more than $2 million on a line-item that was exclusively hats, though.) Overall, Trumps spent about $15.3 million on collateral shirts, hats, signs, etc. more than he has spent on field consulting and voter lists and data.

The definition of Trumpism.

Trump owns the hat company. So he's paying himself.

His website sells those hats at $25 each, and they cost him a fraction of that. So, for that outlay of $3.2 million for hats, conservatively, Trump probably pockets $30+ million. On the other hand, polling expenses don't make him a dime.

He can't bring himself to pay for something he believes he can get for free. The hats he can rationalize as advertising but he's too politically ignorant to and intellectually lazy to find out why campaigns do what they do and what works. I'm not for gobs of dark cash buying elections but at least some political spending ends up in the households of regular people putting food on the table. Trump even fucks that up.
