2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTrump loses grip on Ohio
Operatives and officials on the ground in both parties say that Trumps controversies involving women further intensified his already-steep challenge with white suburban college-educated voters, long a Republican stronghold (in fact, one of Trumps accusers is from Ohio and has generated local coverage of her allegations). Moderate Republicans particularly women who had been moving grudgingly toward accepting the nominee have stopped in their tracks.
One of them is Traci Saliba, a Republican activist from Delaware County, in suburban Columbus.
A die-hard supporter of Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the GOP presidential primary, she had spent most of her general election efforts focused on organizing for Sen. Rob Portman, who is up for reelection. But she had decided to vote for Trump for president.
Trumps not my favorite, but Hillary is totally not my favorite, she told POLITICO last month. Ive been a Republican my entire adult life; Ive supported Republican candidates; the people and the party have nominated him, so Ill be supporting the Republican nominee.

(26,266 posts)This is the freakiest campaign season I've ever experienced. I swear that can almost hear competing screenwriters hammering away on their keyboards to see who can get their treatment into a studio, first.

(40,416 posts)About the 2008 election focusing on Sparkle Moose's selection as GOP VEEP candidate and documents the whole campaign. It's a jaundiced look into the belly of the beast.
The cast is, as in all HBO film efforts, damned good.
John McCain -- Ed Harris
Sparkle Moose -- Julianne Moore
Steve Schmidt -- Woody Harrelson
And lots of great supporting actors.
Well worth a viewing.
on edit: Tom Hanks was one of the producers.

(26,266 posts)It is hard to find anywhere in that film where it comes up short.
I'm also betting that HBO is fast tracking something to go into production so it can come out ASAP after the election.
They can always film two endings.

(40,416 posts)They have great casting and tell compelling stories.
Try "Temple Grandin" some day, with incredible Claire Danes.
