2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI miss George W. Bush
I don't miss Dick Cheney, but Bush for his many, many, many failures, for his evil streaks, for his carelessness, for his mis-management at scales that were simply epic. . .
Well, in all that he could fake being a decent person, had moments of reasonable intentions, and even flashes of true decency through it all. I give him respect -- it's a shame I have to -- for speaking up for Muslims after 9/11.
He was the worst or near the worst President, but at least I recognized him as being in the same species. And his is Aristotle mixed with Lincoln compared to Trump. Bush fucking sucked, but man, we have a monster on the loose.
And at some pre-rational level, I guess I've been twisted enough by this election to miss Dubya. And his dad seems like Jesus Christ.

(40,212 posts)some people were missing Richard Nixon.
It's all relative.
But one thing is clear, the Republican Party has a madman as their nominee.

(33,345 posts)Bush was the Coffin Lid. Trump is every nail you drive in before you bury the GOP 6 feet down.
Good Riddance.

(82,383 posts)and had been elected Gov. of Texas and served in that capacity. Hard to believe that he could be outshone in the incompetent/asshole department, however. The Republicans never cease to amaze me. I thought they could not get worse than Dubya, they come up with Palin. Could not do worse than that, and the nominate Don the Con.
