Backstreet Boys to Donald Trump: Stop Playing 'I Want It That Way'
Donald Trump blasted "I Want It That Way" during a recent rally in Florida, causing The Backstreet Boys to join a large group of artists upset with the presidential candidate for playing their music at his campaign events. "[The Backstreet Boys] did not approve this and we are not associated with the Trump camp," a rep for the group told The Daily Beast.
This scenario has played out multiple times: The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, R.E.M., Steven Tyler, Adele, Queen's Brian May and Jack White have all protested when Trump included their music as the soundtrack for campaign events. It's become so common that Last Week Tonight With John Oliver convened Usher, Cyndi Lauper, Josh Groban, Sheryl Crow and more to create a song about why candidates should not play their music in ads or at rallies. The segment included a memorable quip from Groban: "If I wanted to sing and not get paid, I'd be on Spotify."
