2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA moment please.... Before you put on your party hats...
Each woman stepping forward is not something to celebrate.
Each woman stepping forward should make our heads drop a little farther. Each woman Should cause your heart to break a little and fear the next woman's story will be more than just assault. Accept the victory these woman give with the hopes that they step away from this day with less burden to carry but know they will be pilloried by the right wing press.
So let's make sure we respect their difficult times, do nothing to add to them, and defend them if need be.
Save the party hats for the big celebration in November. Today lets just send some love and respect to some brave women who are going to keep Donald Trump from the presidency and help give America its first Madam President.

(2,338 posts)Have multiple stories that could be told. I can't even count the number of times I've been subjected to being groped and worse. And I would be willing to bet that I will likely add to those numbers over the course of the rest of my life.

(2,338 posts)What disturbs me most is that it always comes as a shock and I fear that I will freeze and not be able to respond.
But all of this has given me strength knowing that I am alone and can (and should) defend myself.

(24,653 posts)The most recent time it happened to me I had a fork in my hand and it ended up in groper's wrist. Didn't even remember reacting. Before that I was Miss Freeze.

(344 posts)When it originally happened, what did these women do? Nothing. Who would listen? Who would believe? What justice could be won?
Now, they can come out and though they will be pilloried some small amount of justice can be won.
And the next woman will know she has options other than silence. And another man will have to face a truth he's been denying.
We celebrate these women's courage.

(6,699 posts)These stories are getting uglier by the hour. I'm fearful something may actually break the camel's back, and this heinous monster will be replaced by "a human clone"...a Pence or some other stuffed suit.
These stories are getting uglier and uglier. Let's just hope he doesn't get replaced before the election, because there is enough fictionalized, groundless hatred out there for Hillary that would seriously make it hard for her to win against a "fresh faced human". You know what I mean?

(10,952 posts)an unknown number of women no longer feel alone and helpless to speak out and fight for their personal dignity. Trump is learning that he cannot get away with it the way he treats women (and young girls). These women/girls are finding out that others will have their back as soon hey stand up to this bully.

(16,672 posts)and 'happy' about why.
It is possible to admire the guts of the women who are coming forward after those disgusting experiences. So I will 'celebrate' - to use your term - their ability to rise above what that creep did to them. Doesn't mean I have to not respect them or acknowledge what happened to them.
Frankly, I find this whole post a bit odd. Why you would think people aren't sympathetic to their experience in the first place? If some is they don't belong on DU at all.

(39 posts)It is sad that this happened. Now they will get justice!
So they will need a lot of support.
Celebrating will be something they may do. I hope.
