The Dolchstoßlegende sounds better in the original German

With Trump's tweets over the past 24 hours:

"Paul Ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs and illegal immigration and not waste his time on fighting Republican nominee"
"Despite winning the second debate in a landslide (every poll), it is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support!"
"Our very weak and ineffective leader, Paul Ryan, had a bad conference call where his members went wild at his disloyalty."
"It is so nice that the shackles have been taken off me and I can now fight for America the way I want to."
"With the exception of cheating Bernie out of the nom the Dems have always proven to be far more loyal to each other than the Republicans!"
"Disloyal R's are far more difficult than Crooked Hillary. They come at you from all sides. They don’t know how to win - I will teach them!"

it's clear Trump is now writing his own "stab-in the-back myth". Right wing Germans spread theirs after World War I as "the real reason" their country lost - that weak-willed civilians and civilian politicians wouldn't support the troops enough. And this, from the start, included anti-semitism, which grew ever larger, especially with the rise of Hitler. This is the alt-right, through and through.

you heard the same shit after Vietnam. "They (politicians) wouldn't let us win."

Horseshit. There comes a time when you have to admit that you can't win. You don't have to admit you lost, but sometimes you just have to walk away. Vietnam was one of those times. In some ways Germany skated in WWI. Virtually all of the combat was waged on foreign soil. There were a few air raids, but not on the scale of WWII. Germany in WWI was economically stressed, but large swaths of NE France is still digging up unexploded artillery shells from 4 years of static warfare.
