Related: About this forumPaul Ryan's statement is all wrong
Paul Ryan in response to the whole thing, has said thru his office: "I am sickened by what I heard today. Women are to be championed and revered, not objectified," Ryan continued in a statement. "I hope Mr. Trump treats this situation with the seriousness it deserves and works to demonstrate to the country that he has greater respect for women than this clip suggests. In the meantime, he is no longer attending tomorrows event in Wisconsin.
Ignoring the part about Trump working on respecting women, let's just look at Ryan's statement - "Women are to be championed and revered, not objectified.". No, no, no, and this is the problem. Women are not some different kind of species. You don't need to champion them, revere them, put them on a pedestal or objectify them. Just treat them as human beings, just like would any other man. Don't attribute any greatness or the lack thereof on them. There are so many parts to who we are, gender is just one of them.

(17,169 posts)About 'revered'. Championed is just as bad - bad dreams of knights in armour and fair damsels. Ryan has no fucking clue.

(35,699 posts)Because if he totally shuns him he knows the Trumpers will abandon the party.
Trump will be forced to make an actual apology and then Ryan will say okay, that's good enough.

(4,661 posts)Does she need to be championed and revered (which actually IS a form of being objectified)? No. This is not 1950.
