Champion debate coach gives win to Kaine: Pence’s refusal to defend Trump was ‘painful to watch’

Todd Graham, the director of debate at Southern Illinois University, graded both vice presidential candidates and came to the conclusion that Republican hopeful Mike Pence lost because he refused to defend his running mate.

Graham, who has won five national championships and was named coach of the year three times, reviewed Tuesday night’s vice presidential match-up and determined that Tim Kaine did a better job at attacking the GOP nominee Donald Trump while defending Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

According to Graham, Kaine earned a B+ for his defense of the top of the ticket, “from the Clinton Foundation to the Iran deal.”

“He was ready with the fact that Clinton apologized for the “basket of deplorables” line,” Graham wrote. “Indeed, Kaine used the old backward-step-pivot-forward debating technique by turning this into an indictment of Trump’s lack of apologies for anything.”

Kaine WAS prepared. He DID make Pence stand with Trump or deny his existence. tonyt53 Oct 2016 #1

Might not have bee what some TV talking heads wanted to see, but it was very effective and it was very clear to average voters what was happening.

I did find it a bit unsettling that he interrupted Pence -- that just gave the opposition ammunition. But I thought he was more sincere, more effective and definitely had Hillary's back.
