Kasichs anti-Trump stand still popular
West Long Branch, NJ - Hillary Clinton holds a slim 2 point lead over Donald Trump in the perennial battleground state of Ohio, compared to a 4 point lead in mid-August. At the same time, incumbent U.S. Senator Rob Portman has expanded his margin over former governor Ted Strickland from 8 points to 15 points now. The Monmouth University Poll also finds that current governor John Kasich's standing has not been hurt by his continued opposition to Trump's candidacy.
Among Ohio voters likely to cast ballots in November's presidential election, 44% currently support Clinton and 42% back Trump. Another 5% intend to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson, who will appear as an independent on the ballot, 1% are supporting Jill Stein of the Green Party, and 6% are undecided. In mid-August, Clinton led Trump by 43% to 39%, with Johnson at 10% and Stein registering less than a percent.
Clinton is not doing quite as well as Barack Obama did four years ago among black, Hispanic, and Asian voters (73% to 15% for Trump compared with 84% for Obama to 14% for Mitt Romney in 2012). Likewise, Trump is not doing quite as well with white voters (48% to 39% for Clinton) as Romney did (57% to 41% for Obama). These results have not changed substantially since August.

(14,855 posts)I found the Quinnipiac poll a little suspicious the other day when it claimed Trump was beating Clinton among independent voters here by 19%! That was way out of line for independents across the country!
From the OP's link:

It might help if Urban Meyer endorsed Clinton! Lol. I bet he'll stay out of it, though. He endorsed Kasich over Trump back in March, I think.

(13,340 posts)I have a BoB frenemy that thold me 538 is "stupid" because they show Ohio in light blue, despite no recent polls showing HRC in the lead. I explained that the model both uses state polls to model the national race AND national polls to estimate state positions, but NOOOO.... Nate is in the tank for HRC.
Here's an example. The nationals indicate HRC should have a SLIGHT lead in Ohio. And here we go.
has recently turned light blue in the now cast as well.

(4,642 posts)Bernie has always caucused with the Dems and is going around the country this week campaigning for Hill (will be in MI all day and night Thursday). He has done more for progressive ideals then all other candidates put together. I would gladly vote for Senator Sanders if I lived in VT.
elmac
(4,642 posts)we can support anyone with progressive views. Remarks made against real progressives like Senator Sanders could be viewed as divisive and only hurts Secretary Clinton.

(14,175 posts)Bernie and the platform he ran on, had the support of over 40% of the Democratic base. He also helped craft Hilary's platform. Hillary has said she wants to work with Bernie to implement this platform. So either you think Hillary is lying and has no intentions of working with Bernie (and support that), or you think that Democrats can afford, in this tight race, to snub their noses at Bernie and those that think the issues he brought up were important.
Some old Bernie supporters have jumped ship completely. But most are following his lead and are supporting Hillary. That range of support spans those that have switched to unequivocally back her to those that will hold their noses while they vote in order to avoid a national catastrophe. But there is a caveat either way, whether you like it or not. IF she wins this election, she will have a tough time in four years if Bernie and that 40 something percent feels she betrayed her promises and thus betrayed 99% of the population. And they will let it be known, as well they should.
