The reasons Tim Kaine interrupted so much.

It was clear to me that Kaine had planned ahead to interrupt repeatedly. It's very counter to his natural style. So, the question is, what was the rationale? Here are some possibilities. What do you all think?

1 - It was necessary for the debate to inspire a lot of talk, so Kaine's points about Trump would get repeated.

2 - He never intended to "win" on style. He mainly intended to repeat the points against Trump over and over.

3 - He hoped to rattle Pence. I kinda don't think this was a strong motivation. Pence is known for being an ice-man in interviews. Nothing rattles this former conservative talk show host. Mainly because he could care less what question he is being asked.

was that the moderator did a piss-poor job on keeping the candidates to their set time-limits. If Kaine wanted to make a point, he had to interrupt.

I really miss the days where there was a timer and the candidates had to stick to that.

7. Lest we forget, Trump interrupted Clinton over 50 times with a lie almost every time.

3. 4 - Prevent a pseudo coherent presentation of Trump's position.

Here's another: Kaine had to prevent Pence from giving what might sound like a coherent presentation of Trump's positions. (Or some one of his many sets of positions.) Thanks to another DUer in another thread for this.

5. Because the format intended to have back-and-forth discussion and Pence was monopolizing that time.

Plus, Pence was going overtime to get in specific jabs and wanted to be interrupted by the moderator so they could claim the moderator was unfair, butting in every time they criticized Hillary.

The debate format did a poor job of distinguishing the 2 minutes and the time for discussion back and forth.

You can be polite if you want to and let people finish their points, but when you are dealing with lying bastards, you have got to speak up immediately when they spout their lies, call them out and set the record straight before they can even complete the thought. The conversation will go on otherwise and uninformed listeners will assume everything said is God's truth.

12. Actually Pence was rattled toward the end. That is what generated the "Mexican Thing" comment.

That could not have been scripted. It was exasperation. And has become the most memorable line of the night, which is bad for Trump and Pence and good for Clinton and Kaine going forward.
