Pence is following the Romney first debate strategy
I saw this on Twitter: ""Pence has only succeeded tonight in the moments where he made points that were totally counter to his and his candidates record."
This is like the first 2012 debate when Romney reinvented himself and won simply by pretending his platform was completely different. Remember "I don't want to eliminate PBS. I love Big Bird!"
Reinvent yourself as reasonable; deny things you said; lie and look good doing it, and win. Pence is doing the "of COURSE Trump didn't say that" followed by some calm, collected lying that mirrors Romney's smile through your teeth affability.
