Pence: Condoms are "too modern and too liberal"

Ahead of this week's vice presidential debates, I was researching Pence's stances on various issues and found this:

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2016/08/mike-pence-condoms-are-too-modern/?ref_widget=popular&ref_blog=dispatches&ref_post=kellyanne-conway-and-the-art-of-double-speak
"Donald Trump’s running mate is a dangerous Christian extremist who wants creationism taught in public schools and believes the government should pay for gay conversion therapy.

In addition, in 2015, as Governor of Indiana, Pence allowed an HIV outbreak to spread, choosing prayer over a clean needle exchange.

But perhaps one of the most idiotic claims made by Pence is that condoms are too “modern,” too “liberal,” and offer a poor defense against sexually transmitted infections and diseases.

Pence’s bizarre and unsubstantiated claims concerning condoms came in 2002, in response to then-Secretary of State Colin Powell saying in an MTV forum that sexually active young people should protect themselves with condoms." (more at link)

Although brought up Catholic, I was shocked to discover from a neighbor friend who attends a Presbyterian Church of America nearby that modern conservative Protestants such as PCA not only do not allow women to be ministers or elders but they do not believe women should have control of their reproduction and that men should not be encouraged or expected to use condoms either. Rather, they teach that women should submit to will of their husbands in such matters.

I must admit, even though I was raised Catholic and completed 12 years of school there, I thought it was pretty weird that they were teaching all these young girls that they had to ALWAYS submit to their husband's wishes.

I'm old now, and teaching stuff like that is ridiculous. I'm glad most people don't subscribe to it.

A man famously indelicate in his choice of female companions was one James Boswell, best known as the biographer of Samuel Johnson. Born into a family of lowland Scots gentry in 1740, he was heir to a large estate in Ayrshire. Although Boswell lived in Edinburgh where he worked as a lawyer, he made frequent trips to London, which was where most of his philandering took place. His diary records regular sexual encounters with numerous prostitutes, and the ensuing bouts of painful venereal infections. In fact, he contracted venereal disease from his very first sexual encounter. To give an idea of his sexual activities: between the ages of 20 and 29, he slept with three married gentlewomen, four actresses, managed a fling with Rousseau's mistress, kept three mistresses and had connections with at least 60 streetwalkers. His sexual appetite was uncommonly large and his friends tended to regard his frequent infections as something of a joke.

Boswell used an animal gut condom in his liaisons with prostitutes, but not consistently enough to avoid 19 or more attacks of gonorrhea. He mentions condoms fairly frequently, however, usually referring to them as "machines" or as "armour". For example, one diary entry from Boswell reads:

"Tuesday 10 May 1763
At the bottom of the Haymarket I picked up a strong, jolly young damsel, and taking her under the arm I conducted her to Westminster Bridge, and then in armour complete did I engage her upon this noble edifice. The whim of doing it there with the Thames rolling below us amused me much."

In July and September of 2010, Pence voted at least twice against the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, which sought to “cover the cost of medical care for rescue workers and others who became sick from toxic fumes, dust and smoke after the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.”

When it came to “crediting” and respecting 9/11 first responders, Mike Pence was all talk, no action. All Dick Cheney jokes aside, let’s remember that the real job of the vice president is actually something like, “being alive on the off-chance the president is not,” not “assuming the duties of the presidency in toto for the duration of the president’s term.” It sort of makes you wonder how Trump envisions the actual role of the country’s chief executive. It certainly made this senior adviser to John Kasich wonder, so he asked Trump’s son what Trump would be doing, if not managing foreign and domestic policy. The response, according to Draper, was: “Making America great again.”

I do have a big problem with them brainwashing children like the delusional creation park in Kentucky. Newsflash the earth and the universe are billions of years old not 5-6,000 and that is lead solid provable. Teaching creationism, even as an option, in schools is unconscionable.

At the debate I think Kaine will go at Pence (and Trump) harder than most expect. They have avoided confrontation with Kaine (imo) because he is a moderate from an important swing state (VA) and adjacent swing state (NC) that they must win to have any chance of winning the presidency.

Iraq - Pence still thinks it was a good idea. That is was not is a primary pillar in Trump's policy position.
Global Warming - Criticism of the conclusion has been disavowed - how will that play in coal country.
Sex and Condoms - Candidate is calling for folks to watch a porn tape, has had affairs in the past, and has his right hand man indicating that everyone is an adulterer.
Evolution - I am still amazed about Pence's loony speech from the floor. I sure would like to see science education discussed.

46. And there is the Facebook page - "Periods for Pence" & don't forget cremation for fetuses
Mon Oct 3, 2016, 02:21 AM
Oct 2016

Recently changed to Periods for Politicians. Pence is so into women's bodies, woman are calling his office with details about their periods. Pence passed a law that miscarried or aborted fetuses had to be cremated or have a burial.

Pence Signed a Law Requiring Burial or Cremation for Aborted Fetuses
The measure was part of a controversial abortion bill that Trump's vice presidential pick signed this past March.

The sweeping abortion bill that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed into law in March gained national attention for prohibiting women from electing to have an abortion due to the race, gender, or disability of the fetus. But the bill contained another unusual provision: It required that aborted fetuses receive what amounts to a funeral.

Pence, whom Donald Trump announced as his vice presidential running mate on Friday, signed the law that made Indiana the second state ever, after North Dakota, to pass a ban on abortions carried out for certain reasons. The law also imposed liability for wrongful death on doctors that perform an abortion motivated by one of the prohibited reasons. And, as Mother Jones reported in March, the law also required that health care facilities inter or cremate the remains of an aborted fetus, and prohibited fetal tissue donation.
