2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDoes anyone suppose that the Clinton Campaign hasn't done opposition research?
The Trump no-tax fiasco is most likely just the first "October Surprise" we're going to see.
Clinton's campaign has plenty of money and plenty of expertise on-board. Opposition research has been going on for months, and there is no doubt whatever that plenty of ugly crap has been dug up. Much of it will be news to most people and it's going to be released methodically this month. Not all at once.
The tax story will dominate the news for a few days. As it moves off the front pages, the next shoe will be dropped, and so on, until the election.
Of course, the Trump camp is doing opposition research, too, but most of what there is to be found was found two decades ago, and has to do with a different Clinton. It's old news. Everyone's already heard it. It's boring stuff.
Trump's bad news is today's news. It's strong news. It's news that can't be and won't be ignored. Watch for it. It's coming.

(17,863 posts)Where was the opposition research in the primaries (the Republican campaigns must have been run by amateurs). Also were where the true red conservative media - the Cuba story was out there for anyone to find for example.

(42,641 posts)They must be hoping that this focus on William Clinton will divert from the steady parade of stories detailing Trump's various lies and tax issues.
Ironic that a rich celebrity who has lived his life in the mostly supportive media lens is being taken down by that same media lens.

tRump wanted revenge on Obama and thought, hey I can beat a woman easily and I'll get more votes than Obama ever did and my brand businesses can't lose either. tRump is not known for thinking in depth.
