Fifty-three percent of adults in the poll released Sunday morning said Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, won the debate, compared to 18 percent who said Trump, the Republican nominee, won.
More than half, 54 percent, thought Clinton got her facts right at the debate. Twenty-nine percent said the same thing about Trump. The poll also found, meanwhile, that 21 percent of voters thought Clinton intentionally lied and 32 percent said the same about Trump.
Only 45 percent of Republicans thought Trump won the debate compared to 83 percent of Democrats who said Clinton won. Among independents, 50 percent said Clinton won the debate, while just 14 percent who said Trump won. Clinton was also seen as the debate winner among conservatives, 40 to 27 percent.
According to the poll, men said Clinton won the debate, 48 to 19 percent. Women said the Democratic nominee came out victorious over Trump by a larger margin, 58 to 18 percent. White voters without a college degree also said Clinton won the debate, 35 to 29 percent. White voters with a four-year college degree ruled more significantly in Clinton's favor, 58 to 21 percent.
Trumps unfavorable rating increased 5 percentage points after last Monday night's debate, according to the poll, to 64 percent. Clintons negative rating was roughly unchanged, at 53 percent.
The poll of 630 adults, conducted Sept. 2830, has a margin of error of 5 percentage points.
