Yo, America: Maine Already Tried The Whole Trump Thing. It Didn’t Work.

So listen, America.

We, the people of Maine, have some wisdom to share with you. I’m sure some of you are unaware that we even exist– we basically live in Canada even though we’re technically one of the 50 states. We live quiet lives up here, and most of us tend to like it that way. We are home to brilliant fall foliage, the famous Maine lobster, moose crashes (got plenty of those), and a coastline that is among the most beautiful you will ever see.

We’re simple people who don’t boast of knowing much that the rest of the country doesn’t know, but we do have some unique knowledge and wisdom to pass onto the rest of you:
We already know what it’s like to have a President Trump, because we have a Governor LePage.

One of the smartest things we can do in life (well, up here we’d say “wicked smahht”), is to learn from the mistakes of others. And Holey Moley, we’ve made a wicked big mistake. Twice.

After years of our quiet existence, we elected one of the only leaders who can be legitimately compared to Donald Trump. This unlikely Governor took control of our state after a failed attempt to step beyond the two-party system. While the attempt was valiant and noble, throwing votes to 3rd parties and independents ended up in LePage getting elected the first time with just 37.6% of the vote in what was a 5-way race, and won him re-election with just 48.2% of the vote the second time around.

And let us tell you, it’s been a wicked headache for us ever since.

According to most polls, ME 2nd districts is likely headed for Trump.

I think it irrational for a state to elected LePage as governor twice after the job he performed. But it also looks like at least half of the state wants more of that ilk become president too. Scary times. Hopefully, polls will turn around.

After 5 years of that war criminal lil' bush, 15 friggin' years of maple syrup bottle-huggin' Perry and now turd-lick Abbot, Texas might have some lessons to offer up as well. Granted the Lt. Governor is actually the more powerful player, but geeze - 15 long years of Perry? Just when you think they couldn't possibly find somebody dumber and more evil, they dig under every slimy rock and come up with another one. And that's the Great State of Texas for you shitheads who don't live here!

If you can combine the concepts of oaf and boor, you have LePage.

Of course, in Texas, having a governor answering to that description is sadly all too familiar.

Although, come to think of it, more than half of them would likely have been willing accomplices.

Chalk it up to my pacifist nature, and my inability to overcome it on such short notice.

There is no good explanation for it other than that. There's something wrong with the general mentality in the rural areas these days. It's funny that they think some uber wealthy New Yorker represents them and their best interests at all. These are the same folks that bitch about the city slickers in southern Maine (including Lewiston/Auburn, which technically second district). The rural Maine folks think the Mainers that live in cities are not real Mainers and not to be trusted and we don't have their best interests at heart. Our cities are so small compared to cities in other states and Portland is like a small town compared to New York City. It just doesn't make any sense. They bought into republican propaganda. It has been very effective. They will support the republican candidate no matter what. It is obvious. We have a supremely qualified democratic candidate for president and an very unqualified republican candidate for president and they are still supporting the republican candidate. That means the brainwashing is complete and 100% effective.

I've seen a just few of Clinton signs. I saw one huge Trump sign (a guess the homeowner wants everyone to know what an asshole they are). Other than that, mostly Gary Johnson signs. I think even the Trump supporters are ashamed of their guy so there aren't so many signs for Trump. I've seen some anti-Trump graffiti in my neighborhood too. It is about what I expected.
