It's one thing for a Democratic presidential candidate to dominate a Democratic city like Philadelphia, but check out this head-spinning figure: In 59 voting divisions in the city, Mitt Romney received not one vote. Zero. Zilch.
These are the kind of numbers that send Republicans into paroxysms of voter-fraud angst, but such results may not be so startling after all.
"We have always had these dense urban corridors that are extremely Democratic," said Jonathan Rodden, a political science professor at Stanford University. "It's kind of an urban fact, and you are looking at the extreme end of it in Philadelphia."

(92 posts)I was out canvassing and stopped by my polling place to say HI to my neighbor, who is also a Dem leader in our township, about 12 miles from Center City Philadelphia ... We chatted about turnout, and how things were looking, and she told me that Ed Rendell has been interviewed and said that turnout in Philly was exceeding 2008 and Obama looked to be about 450,000 votes ahead coming out of the city, and that would be all he needed to carry the state. I knew then that PA would be called early and Romney was done!
So proud to know that most of the city did not buy into any of the lies!

(2,708 posts)link: Still, was there not one contrarian voter in those 59 divisions, where unofficial vote tallies have President Obama outscoring Romney by a combined 19,605 to 0?
Sounds more like voter suppression by (more probably) a democrat official, than voter fraud.
It's more likely official fraud/error than voter fraud, & I suspect some wrongdoing, or at best, official error. The unethical official could rig the vote, rather than the voter signing his name voting twice or more.
.. having said that tho, it's possible several philadelphia districts did go 100% for obama, or at least zero votes for romney (with write ins for mickey mouse & daffy duck etc).
Just not 59, too much, maybe a dozen, since 19,000 divided by 59 gives about 350 voters per district on avg, possible some districts did go 100% obama in some well under the 350 voter average.
It's not like it's a town of 19,000 voters and all voted for obama, it's districts spread out (tho some likely contiguous) and in a sense, cherry picked out of pennsylvania.
.. pennsy had about 6 million voters, so 19,000 would be about 1/3 percent, or 99.7% did not go absolute obama.
Larry Sabato, a political scientist at the University of Virginia who has studied African American precincts, said he had occasionally seen 100 percent of the vote go for the Democratic candidate. Chicago and Atlanta each had precincts that registered no votes for Republican Sen. John McCain in 2008.
