Scandal probe ensnares commander of U.S., NATO troops in Afghanistan-- WTF?

ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT — The FBI probe into the sex scandal that led to the resignation of CIA director David Petraeus has expanded to ensnare Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced early Tuesday.

According to a senior U.S. defense official, the FBI has uncovered between 20,000 and 30,000 pages of “potentially inappropriate” emails between Allen and Jill Kelley, a 37-year-old Tampa woman whose close friendship with Petraeus ultimately led to his downfall. Allen, a Marine, succeeded Petraeus as the top allied commander in Afghanistan in July 2011.

The FBI first notified the Pentagon of its investigation into Allen’s communications with Kelley on Sunday evening, according to the senior defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details of the ongoing case.

It also further calls into question the personal behavior of two of the U.S. military’s highest-ranking and most respected figures, who apparently ignored concerns about the highly sensitive nature of their jobs as they embraced personal relationships with younger women who were not their wives.

I betcha Kelley will end up regretting complaining to the F.B.I. about the emails that Broadwell sent her.

If Kelley had not complained then no one (including herself) would have been exposed.

That agent went rogue and when the FBI ended up shutting him out, he told Cantor.

Big time old boys bullshit in both the FBI and the CIA.

Both operations are going to be fucked up over this shit.

Please, male married DU-ers. Tell me someone doesn't value young flesh more than 30 plus years of marriage to a loyal, faithful partner. I'm so TIRED of ageism against women.

I have to wonder how much sensitive information these personal relationships with younger women may have exposed?

If anything like Patraeus, we've got a bit of problem.

feel virile, young and powerful anymore. What's the use of devoting your life to the attainment of power as a General of whatever if you can't get the added perk of getting pretty girls too?

mean but it seems alot of these "older" men are thinking with the wrong organ.

I hate to see stuff like this..it has ruined MANY a career..oh, and I don't blame only the men...Oh no...these women find themselves a powerful man with deep pockets and they turn into ragiing sex maniacs...

My biggest problem with all this IS I AM SICK OF HEARING ABOUT EACH ONE FOR DAYS AND DAYS AND DAYS. They never let up on Clinton, Tiger's life was over - his golf game certainly went limp....

And FOX is doing their best to find Obama at fault....Jesus.

should be completely ashamed of themselves for violating the trust of their wives, their president and the American people, possibly putting lives and national security in grave danger. This is more than a scandal!

I am now wondering if any breaches of national security could have led to the killings in Benghazi with leaks by these women about there being a CIA operation going on there! Just amazing! *shaking head*

or Republican operative.

Hate to say it but I think more people will pay attention to the sexual side of this more than the security side.

Sex sells in the good ole USofA but corrupt, sleazy vulture capitalists who refuse to release 10 years of tax returns and running for POTUS, not so much.

The question that needs to be asked is who is Jill Kelley ( yes I know shes a socialite) and why does she consistently have access to the some of the highest people in the military? I would not be surprised to find out Petraeus slept with her as well . There was another photo of her with a vice admiral at a party she was throwing, and I think she and her husband need to be thoroughly investigated. If these two are involved with a foreign intel, this would be a SERIOUS problem.

I don't know if these men did this for the first time after becoming generals, or if they've been doing it all along.

My hope is that their need for sex and intimacy has been born out of long deployments and previous separation from their wives. We know from the last ten years that military couples of all ranks have suffered from long term separation, thanks to these two Bush wars.

My hope is also that they were careful in selecting their partners who were not in any way under their control or command.

My hope is that these couples can work through their problems, but given public pressure and embarrassment, I wonder if the wives will chose to keep them. I don't think I'd be able to work through the public humiliation.
