President Obama's victory over Mitt Romney in last Tuesday's presidential election was driven, in part, by the president's strength in urban areas, where robust support cushioned the incumbent against electoral deficits in rural America. But almost a week after the election, it is now becoming clear just how lopsided President Obama's victory was in some cities: in dozens of urban precincts, Mitt Romney earned literally zero votes.

Pres Obama lost about 7.1Million votes in heaviliy DEM States ( CA, NJ, NY, PA etc), there are the voters who did not show up as there was no activity from campaign, we in CA always think that nobody cares about our votes as it is given Blue state. My point is turnout was down but mostly in heavily blue states, swing states except OH/PA did very well.

Going forward Dem campaigns should focus on large states like CA to spike turnout.

10. That makes sense

Part of the loss in NY, NJ and PA was probably due to Sandy. Because NJ and NY did not seem competitive people displaced by the storm had less incentive to go to the inconvenience of voting. That said, I do know someone who lives temporarily in NYC who took an hour and a half bus to NJ to vote because all of the other forms of transportation was out of service. That is dedication. But a lot of people probably didn't go to that much trouble, especially since we knew our states would go for Obama.

Oddly, Obama actually got a higher percentage of the vote in New Jersey than in 2008.

Whether Obama or Romney, they need special recognition.

But going fwd we should not neglect CA, OR, WA etc. We are major voting blocs and are being taken for granted. Yes I hope we continue voting blue but show is some excitement to go out and vote.....

8. I heard this story today as "Romney got zero votes in 39 counties!?!"

from some RW types in town, mulling over how Obama could have possibly won when it looked like Romney was set for a landslide before Sandy hit. Or that's the way the conversation was going - the hurricane opened a window of opportunity to pull the wool over everyone's eyes...

But I looked up the story, and it was small precincts (300 or so voters), not counties, and they were significantly 100% African American. Romney had famously polled close to zero for the last month among African Americans.

So much for their fine theory!

9. well, in South San Francisco High School's "mock election" Romney got 2.8% and Obama 96%

it's not even in San Francisco itself but in a surrounding county.

Stating that it is proof of election tampering. There are probably plenty of red districts/precintcts out west and down south that had the exact opposite happen. They are just droning on & on & on.......

17. Mitt Romney and the Repubs gave no reason for those in inner cities to vote for them.

Many Repubs are racist and backward. Minorities and African Americans are not welcome in that party. So why is this a surprise to anyone?
