And his character didn't have the benefit of Trump's upbringing.

3. When I was a kid I didn't know that he was a satire

He said things loud and it was all so SIMPLE or it used to be.
Of course I didn't know what sarcasm was (I soon would) so maybe that explains why Republicans still cling to this fake TV character* - they just don't get satire, sarcasm, or irony AND they are mentally and emotionally childlike.

* remember it wasn't too long ago that articles were published in their supposedly highbrow magazines and pundits actually went on TV to say that we should base part of our foreign policy on a fictional TV show - that show was "24".

5. Remember Archie had black blood in him
Sun Sep 25, 2016, 09:18 PM

He and his black brethren was going to take down a local white supremacist group if they pushed him.

Besides he was in WW2, the big one.

Warts and all, comparing tRUMP to Archie Bunker is an insult to Archie.

8. Archie didn't know any better

The Tangerine Tyrant is a vicious criminal (who never was held accountable for his endless series of crimes) who also is a dirty coward and a genocidal bigot to boot.

Archie was a bigot, but not so much that it crossed the line to genocidal thinking.

6. Except the fictional character Archie Bunker was married to the same woman until

he was widowed. He never cheated on her. He worked hard for a living to support his daughter and her husband who lived in his home. He called his wife a dingbat, but never "a fat pig". He was racist and homophobic...but he wasn't a con man. And he paid his taxes and his bills.

That is not exactly an "Archie Bunker" sentiment.

10. Norman Lear helps us understand the “lovable bigot”
Sun Sep 25, 2016, 10:32 PM

Here, Norman helps us understand the “lovable bigot” and patriarch of All in the Family. “[He was] miserable because he couldn’t deal with progress,” Norman says. “Progress included a black family moved next door. He was afraid of tomorrow, and that started with the opening song, ‘Those Were the Days.’ But Archie Bunker was a fearful man, and he was a fool because he knew so little.”
