2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary did very well in debates against the great Barack Obama,
one of the best Presidential speakers we've ever had.
Remember that when you're stressing out about her encounter with the don.

EARLY in 2007, Barack Obama met Hillary Clinton at a candidates forum on health care in Las Vegas in one of their first encounters on a debate-like stage, in what would become one of the longest nominating battles in presidential campaign history.
When he returned to Chicago, he was glum.
Hillary looked like a president up there, and I didnt, he told me.
As the senior strategist for Senator Obama, I spent the better part of two years thinking about how to deal with Hillary Clinton. Fluent in policy and crisp in delivery, Mrs. Clinton dished out all that Mr. Obama could handle in the 26 debates of that marathon campaign. We won the race, but she came out on top in many of those encounters, including one in New Hampshire that may have cost us a critical early primary victory.

I used to dread the primary debates because Hillary was a lot better at them.

(22,165 posts)... infinitely more prepared than the SFV, she is well versed in the art of debate, she has a long history of public service .... my concerns lie with the American public. Unfortunately, too many of our voters are un/ill informed chuckleheads that view the debates like they view celebrity roasts. They look for one-liners and are oblivious to intelligence and competence.
I am not terrified and I know that anyone that cares about leadership, integrity and policy will be drawn to Clinton .... but, I acknowledge the chuckle head factor.

He'll have to speak at some length, and then he'll have to listen while she speaks. This will be unlike anything he's ever done before.

(3,635 posts)By her own admission she isn't a charismatic speaker like Obama or Bill.
However she's a policy wonk who's great at dissecting the nuances of complex policy, as well as bringing that knowledge to bear within the debate format.
She's alot like Kerry, in this sense, who (imo) crushed Bush in all three debates.

Is he going to be able to talk about Syria for a full 90 seconds other than bashing Obama? He'll be testing the limits of his recent memorization work (if he even bothered).
