U.S. intel officials probe ties between Trump adviser and Kremlin

U.S. intelligence officials are seeking to determine whether an American businessman identified by Donald Trump as one of his foreign policy advisers has opened up private communications with senior Russian officials — including talks about the possible lifting of economic sanctions if the Republican nominee becomes president, according to multiple sources who have been briefed on the issue.

The activities of Trump adviser Carter Page, who has extensive business interests in Russia, have been discussed with senior members of Congress during recent briefings about suspected efforts by Moscow to influence the presidential election, the sources said. After one of those briefings, Senate minority leader Harry Reid wrote FBI Director James Comey, citing reports of meetings between a Trump adviser (a reference to Page) and “high ranking sanctioned individuals” in Moscow over the summer as evidence of “significant and disturbing ties” between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin that needed to be investigated by the bureau.

According to a former briefer interviewed on TV, most don't even want sensitive info during the grueling days of the campaigns for fear they might blab something forgetting where they heard it.

My own, imagining if Rump were elected, is directed to wondering how many of "the generals" would dutifully refuse to follow improper orders, as writers in various prestigious journals have suggested they certainly would. There are obviously plenty of Gen. Flynns, Allens, McInerneys out there, and presumably some of them would be in the White House. Trump's already signaled his readiness to replace current with his own choices.

9. Lots of people have been digging, besides the FBI

and other agencies who, of course, do not discuss their investigations. We have to always keep in mind that we usually know nothing about most of what is going on, not even that it's going on. With that in mind, we can avoid the foolish mistake of assuming there is nothing.

This account of a journalist's tiresome labors in trying to identify and confirm if this nobody even existed is pretty readable. It seems Carter Who? Page was a very small, obscure potato who got elevated by associating with a freak U.S. presidential candidacy. Carter may end up in trouble with the government for something, and it could be embarrassing for the Trump campaign--who are distancing like crazy, but if Putin's attempts to corrupt our election and infiltrate our government are serious, it's apparently unlikely that this is one of his guys.

Regarding how on earth Carter Page became a "foreign policy advisor" to Trump, who in spite of being a complete Washington outsider insists he only hires "the very best,"
