2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI went back to relive some of the President Obama vs Romney debate moments...
... the "Please proceed, Governor" and "Horses and Bayonets" moments specifically (REVERSE SPOILER ALERT: "Horses and Bayonets" was my Halloween costume that year; I remember WILDLY cheering in my living room at that moment during the debate, because I knew he not only expressed a beautiful argument, but struck a political KNOCKOUT blow), but I was struck by something.
We're not going to see ANYTHING LIKE THIS in this year's debates. Say what you want about Rmoney (sic), but he had some sort of grasp on policy and was at least able to articulate the issues to a degree.
With Trump, the bar has been set IDOCRACY low.
I had a conversation with the VP of my department today (me as the manager, she as the VP, have had a bond since I was a "lowly" coordinator, ever since I saw her "I'll be a Post Feminist in the Post Patriarchy" bumper sticker, and we hit it off politically).
She's been a Hillary supporter since day one of this political season (I voted for Bernie in the Primary, but of course support the Dem nominee whole-heartedly). We love talking politics because we know we're two of the few OPEN liberals in our company (along with our HR manager).
So, we asked each other, what if the choice was GW Bush vs Trump?
It didn't take ONE full second... of COURSE you'd have to vote for GW Bush. Her full response being, "I've never thought I'd EVER be saying that, in public, without throwing up in my mouth, but of COURSE." Because, as we went on to state, Trump actually poses an EXISTENTIAL threat to our democracy. There may not BE a United States of America to speak of if he gets into the Oval Office.
We had this conversation in front of our Director, in between us positionally, who is VERY apolitical, and it convinced her: "Well, fuck it, let's go full girl power and all vote Hillary!", was her response.
It was a great moment and I think we actually got her on board (here in AZ, that may be no small thing).
So that's my fun moment for today. GOTV.

(2,013 posts)...(I tend to do that when I reminisce and go exploring). I heard the "no applause" rule being WIDELY adhered to (shit... to which... it's widely adhered? ANYTHING to not end my sentence in a preposition!)
Anyhow, I really don't see that rule being ignored wholesale. If it is, it'd be for the first time that I remember in a Presidential debate.
Without it, Trump is fucking SUNK. Most of his schtick is crowd reaction. He'll look like he's BOMBING without it. So, quite frankly...
I. CAN'T. FUCKING. WAIT!!!
Wipe the floor with this fascist piece of shit, Hillary!

(8,287 posts)Tucson and found many liberal thinkers there. My neighbor across the street has actually married a same sex couple and keeps an eye out for my tenants. The neighbor behind me (who bought his wife online from Taiwan, I shit you not) was a fox news watcher. He asked me if I watched Bill O'Really. I said nope but I didn't go on a tirade like I would have had I known more about him. He hated Hillary and we lived there in 2013. Whatever.
I miss AZ. I miss the heat. I miss the view there. we had a great view.

(2,013 posts)at that point (Tucson), and moved to Phoenix myself about 10 years ago. Tucson is MUCH more friendly and liberal, but Phoenix has some awesome spots as well.
REALLY hoping we can knock out Arpaio in November too (I've seen him trailing in recent polls to Penzone!).
