Moonwalk
(2,322 posts)...I think it might give a lot of viewers, even staunch Hillary voters, something of an epiphany. In the back of my mind I knew this, but watching this little video brought it home that most people expect a certain type of humor from their president, the one they've been seeing from Obama for eight years, and that they saw from Bill Clinton for his eight. Languid and joking with friends. And it's perfectly understandable that this is what we are used to. Also that if we don't see it in Hillary, we may feel a disconnect.
But Hillary's humor is far more deadpan. If you key into that...well, it's like those pictures that stop being one thing and become something else. "Oh...I get it..." This video, IMHO and remarkably enough, gets that through to the viewer. All you see is Hillary, and the comparing goes away, the disconnect goes away, and you "get it." What kind of president she's going to be, including her humor.
I'm very glad she did this. And I'm thrilled that so many thousands are watching it. I don't know if it will change minds, but I think it will make those who've reluctantly decided to vote for her more enthusiastic and happy with her. And they probably won't even realize why
The Wielding Truth
(11,415 posts)This shows so much of her responsible demeanor. I am amazed by her ability to maneuver this. I respect her sense of respect for the interviewer and her sense of self. She is well suited to be in the position to evaluate her surroundings.
Zach is brilliant and courageous.

(43,182 posts)The schtick is that it's fake and Zach is intentionally coming off as shallow and annoying. President Obama did a similar appearance a few years ago.
That being said, her acting/improv skills are not bad at all.

(58,785 posts)a while longer for more filming. The style of response she adopted is the show's style. She knew she wouldn't be walking up with a big candidate smile and handshake, so she probably wasn't that surprised to learn the intro would be her guards attacking her host instead.
Q: It's interesting how each person has a different way in which they react to Zach. Some are disgusted. Obama was mean. Hillary was sort of dismissive and incredulous. Did they come out in the shooting? Did she come with it?
A: Yeah, she knew what Between Two Ferns was and what's expected of a guest: to sit here and be roasted. It's interesting because we have such a good time shooting it, you wish you could put out a separate video where it shows us having a great time. But these are all about hitting a certain vibe and she was really good about slipping into that.
Q. What was the vetting process like for the questions?
A. I don't know if it was because of the short timetable or because when you're in the middle of a campaign there's an infinite amount of more important things than making this video, but it actually was not much of a vetting process. When we do these we prefer to do them with a lot of improvisation, where the interviewee doesn't know what the questions are beforehand, so the campaign was pretty cool about that. In this one, actually, the majority of it was improvised.
