Anti-Clinton super PAC jumps into the fray with billionaire backing

A super PAC formed to launch quick-strike attacks against Hillary Clinton that has been in standby mode for much of this year is reviving its efforts, backed by seven-figure donations from billionaires Sheldon and Miriam Adelson and TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts.
The group, Future45, aims to raise at least $25 million to run ads in at least six battleground states, with plans to hit Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee and also tout Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. The Adelsons have committed $5 million to the efforts, while Ricketts and his family plan to give at least $1 million, as the Wall Street Journal first reported. Other GOP donors have pledged millions more, according to people familiar with the group's plans.
Future45 spent more than $1 million earlier this year on TV and online ads hammering Clinton on her foreign policy record and ties to big banks. But some of its initial backers, including hedge-fund executive Paul Singer, did not want to invest in the presidential race once Trump was the clear nominee.
The group's resurgence signals a late wave of big-money spending will be aimed at the former secretary of state, who has enjoyed a massive advantage on the air. Along with hitting Clinton, the super PAC plans to invoke Trump in its ads in an effort to draw a positive contrast between the two candidates.
