"I'm officially done with the "she's so flawed but she is the lesser of two evils" rhetoric. Cause, you know, I'm flawed. And you are flawed. And Bernie Sanders is flawed and Barack Obama is flawed and even Michelle Obama is flawed. But the difference between all of them and me--and probably you, is that they have all given their flawed lives to public service. And now, they are all working together in their inevitably flawed ways, to save all of us, and the whole world from a sociopathic narcissist. And every day, Hillary puts a hopefully unflawed bullet proof vest on her flawed and aging and sometimes unsmiling self and stands up in front of people who have been incited by her opponent to shoot her, and she says calm and rational and intelligent (and sometimes flawed) things about how to make a difference. In my book that makes her a fucking rock star. And in the words of another flawed and resilient rock star: There is a crack in everything. That's where the light gets in."

Certainly FDR, JFK and LBJ were flawed and were damn good presidents.
No one has ever been under a microscope like Hillary for 30 years. Every minor defect is blown into a catastrophic flaw.

(19 posts)What a terrific post. To get up and face this barrage of lies and insults day in and day out, and still push forward with her positive message is beyond courageous. She has had to fight comments from a demented opponent, as well as the undeserved negative press who have been relentless in trying to take her down.
And welcome to DU!
For my own part, all the false negativity being spewed and repeated by the RW talking machine just doesn't stick, because it is without merit. I don't know how she does it day after day, having to fight falsehoods, but it doesn't phase her. She does all this and continues to give give give with her time.
Meanwhile we have her opponent who has done what with his time? Nothing. He's given nothing. He only understands take, take, take. The only way to prop up someone so selfish in their endeavors is for the media to make up some false analogy that somehow the giver and the taker are equal. Sorry. Not even close. Hillary is a rock star!

(81,322 posts)Thank you for this! I love this post, too.
I LOVE that the original author noticed - what Hillary has to face EVERY day. The media already hard-wired to distrust her and paint her negatively (Hello Andrea Mitchell) and accentuate the negative EVERY DAMN TIME!!!
THIS was a really great find, although it's from earlier this month. It singles out the NYTimes but the same scolding has been earned by ALL of the mainstream media lemmings:
The Times uniquely, though only as a leading example for the rest of the national press, has a decades' long history of being lead around by rightwing opposition researchers into dead ends which amount to journalistic comedy - especially when it comes to the Clintons. But here, while all this is happening we have a real live specimen example of direct political and prosecutorial corruption, misuse of a 501c3 nonprofit and various efforts to conceal this corruption and the underlying corruption of Trump's 'Trump University' real estate seminar scam. It's all there - lightly reported here and there - but largely ignored.

(904 posts)I think false equivalency is a right wing voter suppression tool. They want people to think nothing will change and it just doesn't matter. What a crock! Look at actual policy and what each candidate says they are going to do. Trump tells us to trust how great he is, while Hillary has an actual plan. And it's pretty damn progressive, but don't expect the media to ever cover it.

calimary
(81,322 posts)They can't tell you what the lies are. They've just heard it over and over - "she lies, she can't be trusted, she has a trust problem with voters, she has bad numbers on trustworthiness..." Well???? What do you expect when every second sentence in every intro to every segment on every show, EVERY time the topic is Hillary v Trump? You KEEP HEARING this shit to the point where it's kinda driven in. And the incessant repetition just drives it home again and again and again until you're conditioned to take it for granted.
WHEN do they start reporting on things like this?
http://www.attn.com/stories/10483/chart-compares-presidential-candidates-honesty
And when does something like the above article start being emphasized?
I'm still stunned that the major media has now decided, FINALLY (!), AT LONG LAST (!!!!!), to use the word "lie" to label something that actually is, provably and demonstrably, a lie. As in most of what Trump says on any given hour of any given day. His trying to push birtherism off on the Hillary campaign was just a little too much to leave alone, I guess. Stunk SO bad even the NYTimes and other major media apologists and accomplices and other cover-up artists finally couldn't take the stench anymore. They'd FINALLY met the straw that broke their camel's back.
But look how long it's taken. They've finally decided to step away from their protective routine of tiptoeing around any GOP/CONservative lies. Anybody remember the wussy flaccid headline "Prevaricating President?" They couldn't bring themselves to declare flat-out that george w dry-drunk was lying. I guess Trump just hit the trip-wire for these lazy lice. Finally stunk up the joint too bad even for them.

(11,122 posts)This is a great post. Powerful language and images.
Those who burp up the "she's so flawed" meme have no will or mind of their own. Therefore they are owned by the shiniest lie told to them.
Barack has said it over and over. She is the most qualified person ever to run for president. She may not be the best campaigner or most magnetic personality, but no one seems more decent or more prepared.
Oh yeah. She's a rock star all right.
