(52,253 posts)the guilty get due process in large part to try to ensure that the ones we punish are only the ones who are actually guilty.
the rest is because we're not animals, we recognize that even the guilty are human beings.
decent people, including serious "law and order" types know and accept this. especially on the right, where people are often fearful of government powers. if they stopped to think about it, they wouldn't want the government to have the power to deny healthcare and to rush to punishment of anyone (say, "you, yes you", for example) to be picked up off the street with flimsy evidence that wasn't carefully examined by an impartial jury with the accused allowed to present their side of the story.
but not trump. he's positive they got the right guy because he heard the police had one or two pieces of evidence and that's enough for donnie.
