John Kasich says Trump owes President Obama an apology for questioning his U.S. citizenship

Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Sunday said that Donald Trump owed President Obama an apology for his years of claiming the commander-in-chief was not born in the U.S.

"You know, yeah," the former presidential candidate said on NBC's "Meet the Press" when asked if Trump should apologize.

Kasich, who has refused to endorse Trump, said that the bizarre claims were a product of misplaced “anger” — and that unless it’s resolved clearly, it will simply be passed on to whomever the next President is.

“It’s going to move on to whoever should win this election. We ought to be alarmed with the drift in this country away from what's best for our nation and not what's best for me as I, you know, vent my anger or frustration,” he said, adding that the country’s problems will never get solved if people just keep “spewing anger.”

Where was everyone on both sides 5 years ago when the president was facing not just unprecedented obstruction but these racist attempts to delegitimize his presidency? Why wasn't everyone calling for an apology back then? Why only now, when President Obama's approval rating is 58%, is everyone suddenly coming to his defense?

I know it's how politics works but it irks me.

Any time somebody does the right thing years later when it's "safe", they may as well not bother. What does Kasich have to gain from this? I KNOW he wouldn't do it if there weren't something in it for him.

On edit, I feel really cynical today. I would give ANYTHING for this all to be finished with HRC safely elected.

establishment in opposing Trump, most of whom have meekly gone along with the Orange Oligarch.

Kasich is supporting Obama on TPP, is calling out Trump's birtherism at a time when Trump is on the ropes over the issue (timing is everything in politics), and is the governor of a crucial swing state where the Trump trolls could turn on him in force (its not like he's the governor of blue state).

Kasich's distaste and disapproval of Trump could be enough to swing Ohio our way, and help with similar voters across the rust belt.

Kasich is a Republican, but still a decent man, who clearly is frightened by what a Trump presidency could mean for America and the world.

Kasich is positioning for 2020 here. And this is after Priebus read him the riot act. He must be looking at some interesting Ohio polling to stick a thumb in the RNC's eye like this.

Republicans owe the world an apology for their wreck less policies that have killed millions of innocents, made the rich richer on the backs of the poor, and destroyed the environment.

Kasich could have prevented Trump from winning if he'd gotten out of the race despite not winning a single state other than his own and throwing his support behind someone else.

Kasich is only doing this for himself, just like everything else Republicans do and vote for. It's all about ME, ME, ME.
