Related: About this forumDid Trump borrow/steal Hillary's "Stronger Together" Campaign Logo?
I keep getting a Trump banner across my DU pages with a picture of Trump and Pence looking just like Hillary's logo but with "Greater Together" and it's asks for a donation. Paid for by Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. (There's at least two different pictures.)
What's up DU? Did Trump buy advertising space on DU? Has anyone else seen this banner on DU?

(3,335 posts)The logo on the ads looks just like hers and I wanted to know whether or not anyone else had seen it and what they thought about it. Unfortunately everyone who responded seemed to gloss over that portion of my comment. If they haven't seen it obviously they can't comment. Just wanted to see if those who might have seen it object as I much as I do. There are only two candidates in this race, and the fact that Don the Con Man can't seem to come up with his own logo without having co-opted hers speaks volumes.

(52,233 posts)du doesn't have anything to do with choosing the actual ads, du just uses some third party software that somewhat randomly serves up ads. the entities who advertise on du through this third party are simply interested in something about the du demographic.
the fact that we're interested in politics makes us a reasonably attractive audience for both sides. hillary's ads will get more attention and positive reaction, though most of us presumably were already going to vote for her. conversely, trump's ads will get rather negative reaction, but if even a tiny percentage of viewers change their minds, that's a victory for him.
also, i suspect that the ad service looks for other words on the page to serve up a relevant ad. so you're more likely to see a trump ad on a page where the o.p. is about trump; more likely to see an ad for a diet plan on a thread about obesity, etc.
strategery blunder
(4,225 posts)They have to tell the advertisers that such and such ad (i.e. promoting Trumped Hair Day) is not appropriate for the values of the website.
But of course the admins cannot tell the ad service to filter ads that they do not know are being displayed on the site. They aren't shown the ads ahead of time, and presumably they have ads disabled for their own browsing experience.
So if the OP saw ads directly promoting Trump at DU, it would be wise to inform the admins directly. ATA seems like a good place.
