2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid This Missouri Democrat Just Make the Best Campaign Ad of the 2016 Election?
Kander, 35, is Missouri's secretary of state. He also happens to be an Afghanistan war veteran. And his literally hands-on message about guns leaves quite the impression. Indeed, this is the kind of spot that can swing a race.
Despite the regular mass shootings in the U.S., background-check legislation has not made much headway in Congress, even though the majority of Americans support it. Many Second Amendment advocates say background checks would limit a constitutionally guaranteed right, while those in favor of them say they would keep weapons out of the wrong hands.

(60,074 posts)In a news story posted online Wednesday morning, The Star reported Blunt received three draft deferments while a college student in the late 1960s. Blunts office did not disclose the deferments in 2015, when the newspaper specifically asked Blunts office about the senators draft history.

(53,339 posts)Their recent email blast:
Jason Kander could have gone anywhere after law school.
He chose Afghanistan.
Shortly after he returned, he was elected to the Missouri state legislature and then as Secretary of State, where he's rooted out corruption just like he did as his job when he served overseas.
Now he's running against Republican Senator Roy Blunt, who lied to his constituents about Vietnam draft deferments and then voted against increasing benefits for veterans who actually served. It's time for Senator Blunt to go.
Watch our latest ad and contribute $3 to VoteVets so we can elect progressive veteran Jason Kander to the Senate and defeat a man who voted for the war in Iraq and against increasing the benefits for those who served there.
Of course, we are going to continue doing everything we can do to stop Donald Trump. But we also have to protect against ultra-conservative attempts to privatize veterans' health care in the Senate.
This is a big ad buy for such a close race, and the message is powerful. It's going to make a difference. Make your $3 contribution to VoteVets, and as you watch the results come in on election night, know that your donation could be the difference.
This race could be the most important race of all the 2016 Senate campaigns.
All our best,
- The team at VoteVets

(4,033 posts)to pass a law that says you don't need a permit to conceal carry and in the same law enacted 'stand your ground' legislation. So, anyone with a gun can carry it concealed and can use lethal force if I feel 'my life is threatened'.
Really glad I don't live in Missouri any more.
