2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo, some DC insiders are indicating Trump is raging behind the scenes right now
No links, these are just well connected people I personally know. Yeah, yeah anonymous person on the internet, so up to you if you want to believe me. Hopefully, my track record has earned the trust of at least a few DUers. Anyway, in list form:
-He is apparently extremely angry at Conway and has given her an ultimatum to fix the mess he feels she made (Why we're now seeing frantic birther press releases coming from his campaign now)
-He didn't want to do this and never wanted to give an answer on Obama's nationality. He was "bribed" with doing it by his team by being given assurances he'd get free advertisement for his new hotel if he held a major announcement there
-Very angry at the tone the media has taken in the aftermath and feels they're targeting him
-Especially livid that the hotel footage was not only not shown but actually erased.
-Is asking to have surrogates accuse the media of censorship of news because of the erased footage and wants to ban the media pool pretty much completely other than those he know are friendly to him
Edit: I apparently missed this, Hugh Hewitt already floating censorship angle:
So I argued w/ @realDonaldTrump and @mike_pence to allow everyone in, and advocated for pool. Now pool censoring news. Just wow. MSM melting

(3,335 posts)What he's probably afraid of is that the media will start to cover him as a candidate and not the celebrity that they have been treating him as, and holding him to the standard that they hold Clinton, and not kissing his A$$. He already gets more air time than any other candidate and he's been playing them like a finely tuned fiddle. Hopefully, they are pissed enough that they recognize the error of their ways and they will no longer continue to allow the double standard prism in which they view his candidacy to continue.

(115,836 posts)with what we already know about Trump and his campaign.
I hope he fires Conway (even though the mess is his fault, not hers) because that would give even more credence to the chaotic state of his campaign. The whole thing was set up as an infomercial for the hotel - he lured the media to the event by telling them he would address the birther issue at that time. Then he spent 20 minutes or so getting fellated by some veterans, one of whom was himself a birther. After this went on with no indication he would say anything about the issue the tv news started cutting away - and only at that point he gave his terse statement that Obama was born in the US (including the lie that the whole thing started with Clinton). And then he walked off. The media - but photographers only, no reporters or producers - were then invited to go on a tour of the hotel. A producer was physically restrained from going on the tour.
So, finally realizing they'd been had, the pool participants decided not to use the footage and in fact destroyed the video, ruining Trump's infomercial.
CNN and MSNBC have been just furious about this all day. And Trump is furious that he didn't get the free advertising for his hotel that he was expecting.
Schadenfreude can sure feel good sometimes.

"Donald Trump Again Wont Acknowledge Obama Was Born in U.S." http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/09/16/us/politics/donald-trump-birther-obama.html
His campaign realized his "I dont talk about it any more" line was no longer working to keep the press off his back--and in fact was fueling damaging headlines that he was still a birther. They had to stop the bleeding.
So the Trump campaign threw together that "press conference" on Friday, but did a bad job of it. And Trump made it worse when he tried to use it as an opportunity for free advertising for his new DC hotel. A two-fer. Because Trump just can't help himself. A con's gotta con. The campaign figured the press would take it---like they had everything for the last 15 months. But they badly miscalculated. The press revolted when Trump ham-handedly banned reporters from the hotel tour (only allowing the camera people) and refused to take any questions at what he billed as a "press conference."
