(27,630 posts)Women are not asking for "free birth control". We would like it to be covered by health insurance that we pay for, and we would like Planned Parenthood to keep on helping poor women have access to affordable birth control.
This woman did us a disservice by saying she wants "free birth control".

(15,185 posts)This argument shouldn't even be about "free" birth control.
It's about health insurance providers giving women access to basic services and procedures such as contraceptives, which have a vast influence on hormones, including of course acting as birth control. In the case of Sandra Fluke, she was talking about a friend who had a cyst which was to be treated by a contraceptive, which was not covered under Georgetown's insurance policy.
Once this thing is framed as "paying for other's sex lives", the whole narrative is lost. We shouldn't allow Rush and other ass holes to reframe this issue.
This is a pretty basic women's right issue as far as gender parity in health insurance is concerned. Health insurance providers are known to discriminate against women...

Thanks, Etch-a-Sketch!

(15,185 posts)The second woman's question was entirely valid and important - she asked about where women should go for HPV vaccines and mammograms, vital services Planned Parenthood provides.
Romney didn't even address it and just went rambling on about spending.
