I have lived in Seattle a long time, so saw both the storm and the Saints' celebration from here. My family are of course Saints fans from the get-go, even in the bag-over-your-head days. That celebration was one for the ages, wasn't it?
Sometime pretty soon I'm planning to take a train trip from here to there. Sounds like a fabulous time! I have to stay in hotels in the city now since all the family is north and east of the city but I love Le Richelieu and stay there whenever I can. I'd love to have lived in The Quarter but the Garden District is a close second. You can get away from it there, iykwim. I hear The Bywater is hipster central these days. 
You are so right about people from other places hearing/visiting Nola. I am from CT and when friends and relatives came down they were like "Holy crap, can not believe a place like this exists ! " Don't know about WA but in CT there is a rule for EVERYTHING. You go to recycling jail at the drop of a hat. Prison for parking screwy. Although...love the rule in my hometown - if you use poison on lawn you have to post a sign.
Train trip sounds fantastic. Bet it will take two weeks to get there . Yes, love the GD too. Decided we need apt with balcony in Qtr and mansion in GD. Step 1: Get money. Yes, Bywater - someone told me to buy a house on edge of it years ago. bet value's quadrupuled.
