Devel Patrick for Attorney General?

Massachusetts Governor to Dine at the White House Friday

By HELENE COOPER

The auditions for President Obama’s second-term cabinet are under way, with Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts and his wife heading to Washington on Friday for dinner with Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle.

A White House official confirmed the “social” evening, on Friday, after reports surfaced in Boston. Mr. Patrick’s office said in a statement that “after breaking ground for the Fore River Bridge on the Quincy/Weymouth line this afternoon, Governor Patrick will fly to D.C. With Mrs. Patrick to have a social dinner tonight with the president at the White House. ”

Mr. Patrick is believed to be a possible contender for the job of attorney general if Eric H. Holder Jr. steps down.

announced he is resigning as Governor? Is it possible the NYT is merely blowing a dinner engagement between friends out of proportion? If the President wants the Governor in his cabinet, as AG, and feels the Governor will serve the country well, should Patrick decline? Given the Governor's history as head of the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ and familiarity with civil rights laws governing this country (and its elections) should Mr Patrick decline the position if the President offers it to him? Especially in view of Republican efforts to disrupt a citizen's right to vote?

Reporters and political aficionados love that, whether they are in the know or not. Real people could not care less. If I want to read rumors, People magazine has many, generally better sourced than this one.

Obviously, Patrick would make a great AG. However, this type of article is why I consider the media way overpaid.

The governor will complete his term (he takes his promises seriously) and whatever happens after that, only time will tell.

AG is always a very controversial position. People generally emerge from the job with high disapproval ratings. It's not a position for a politician.

Remember the irrational hatred they had for Eric Holder, who was a pretty low-key and moderate member of Obama's cabinet?

But no, the Tea Party just KNEW that he was in cahoots with the dreaded New Black Panthers, and that he was going to put every White person into a concentration camp.

LOL.

“In a different time and place and under different circumstances, I’d like to work in the administration, but that’s not this time,” Patrick said yesterday while at the ground-breaking for the new $244 million rebuild of the Fore River Bridge on the Quincy-Weymouth line.

“I have an assignment I enjoy, and I have an agenda that’s still ambitious,” he added. “I have two more years to drive it and I intend to do that.”

Patrick did admit there are “a lot of really great options” in the next Obama administration, but he added he’s letting those “eager” to apply to do so.

I thoroughly enjoy the people I elect here and what they bring to government.

Please stop taking them out of their roles.

It was a disaster when Kennedy died and we ended up with Brown. Leave us Warren for six years and let her do her job. Let Kerry continue to do his job. Let Patrick continue to do his job. We elected them there for a reason. Time to plunder some other state. MA has a mixed reaction across the country in general for good reason. We're typically at the forefront of things because of our large influx of people from overseas and general diversity as well as adapting to changes since we started settling here four hundred years ago. But let things start picking up elsewhere for awhile.

Patrick wouldn't create a special election if he moved up, but it would make things harder in 2014. And frankly, I don't want to deal with another special election either when it comes to Kerry.

She was AG in MI before becoming Governor. She was graet at that job, much more effective than she managed to be as Gov.

Would love to see her back in the game, as it were.

Holder isn't going to listen to the will of the people. The next AG should be willing to do that.
