the media is responsible for pumping trump up.

who decided that trump deserved to be covered in this way?

he's benefited not just from any "false equivalency" crap, but far beyond that, he's gotten his speeches and quote on the air and at the center of discussion for months and months now.

that's not reporting the news, that's not reflecting reality, that's an editorial decision.

it's obvious that trump's a racist, a bigot, a sexist, a xenophobe, and idiot, a crook, a con man, a liar, and a maybe even a pedophile. he's clearly not at all suited to be president *and the media is on firm ground to treat him as such*.

so why air and dissect his every quote? we don't need more evidence that he'd make a disastrous president.

and it's not about attracting eyeballs. the media could get plenty of eyeballs with stories about:
- how the republican party couldn't pick anyone competent our of 15 or so candidates
- how the demographics are favoring democrats
- the internal split within the republican party
- how the lack of a competent national candidate affects down-ticket races
- whether or not democrats will pick up the senate
- what president clinton plans on doing (anyone heard a quote from her on national tv recently ffs?)
- the future of the republican party
- how parties come and go over time
- how parties change over time

etc.

there's no need to get drawn into the minutiae of trump's diseased brain.

the media makes editorial decisions like this all the time, for instance not to give major coverage to third party candidates.

*except when they want to*! john anderson and ross perot got quite a bit of air time. on what basis? the media simply decided that they were worthy somehow of coverage, although most third party candidates are completely ignored.

it's time for them to treat trump the way they treat most third party candidates. ok he's running, but he's never going to actually win, so why give him much air time at all.

discussing the Washington Post article,

How Donald Trump retooled his charity to spend other people’s money
An investigation of the Donald J. Trump Foundation — including examinations of 17 years of tax filings and interviews with more than 200 individuals or groups listed as donors or beneficiaries — found that it collects and spends money in a very unusual manner.

Donald Trump was in a tuxedo, standing next to his award: a statue of a palm tree, as tall as a toddler. It was 2010, and Trump was being honored by a charity — the Palm Beach Police Foundation — for his “selfless support” of its cause. His support did not include any of his own money. Instead, Trump had found a way to give away somebody else’s money and claim the credit for himself.

Trump had earlier gone to a charity in New Jersey — the Charles Evans Foundation, named for a deceased businessman — and asked for a donation. Trump said he was raising money for the Palm Beach Police Foundation. The Evans Foundation said yes. In 2009 and 2010, it gave a total of $150,000 to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, a small charity that the Republican presidential nominee founded in 1987. Then, Trump’s foundation turned around and made donations to the police group in South Florida. In those years, the Trump Foundation’s gifts totaled $150,000.

Trump had effectively turned the Evans Foundation’s gifts into his own gifts, without adding any money of his own.

On the night that he won the Palm Tree Award for his philanthropy, Trump may have actually made money. The gala was held at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, and the police foundation paid to rent the room. It’s unclear how much was paid in 2010, but the police foundation reported in its tax filings that it rented Mar-a-Lago in 2014 for $276,463.

THAT's what CNN was talking about.

And, CNN's coverage for now mostly just reported Hillary's account of being overcome by the heat, discussing her clothes, the heat, etc.
