(2,056 posts)Large crowd.
Hot and Humid.
Standing still.
Formal attire, not shorts and a tank top to stay cool.
Extremely emotional event and highly personal since she was senator to NY at the time of 9/11.
Campaigning up to 18 hours a day.
My 100% healthy son has been prone to overheating like this since he was quite young. You get out of the sun/heat into air conditioning/cool place and rest and you are as good as new.
My ex husband was in the Navy. Every time they had inspections in their dress blues (even in the winter in New England) someone would overheat and collapse from locking their knees. Never failed.

(2,056 posts)I'm not even a Democrat for criminy sakes. I'm an Independent. I am not loyal to any party. I vote based on who is the best candidate. I don't spin. The Clinton haters are going to make a deal out of it because that is what they do. Loyal Democrats and Clinton supporters are going to worry it will cost the election. The people you are worried about caring will not care. I'm telling you this because I am one of those people. I don't give a rat's ass about the emails. I don't give a flying fart about this because it could happen to anyone. All I know is that That big obnoxious Cheeto needs to be defeated.

(2,056 posts)She has a pantsuit on. It's hot, humid and muggy. Her hair is sweaty. Clearly she got overheated. It happens. Who else fainted? Who else has been tirelessly campaigning 18 hours a day for months on end with little sleep? She probably didn't drink or eat enough this morning.
My God I'm about to stop reading this site because some of you guys are so damned depressing. I WAS in such a good mood, too.

(2,056 posts)That she may have fainted or her knees buckled and she lost a shoe. My ex husband was in the military and when they had to stand at attention a long time someone would always lock their knees and collapse due to how they were standing. Report on CNN now from her campaign that she left because she got overheated and wasn't feeling well.

(7,963 posts)Maybe it is because I live in AZ and I deal with this often that it is not that big a deal. Just go inside, cool down, and rehydrate (both fluid and electrolyte replacement). My elderly mother gets it every so often when she works in the garden a little too long. She goes inside, has her coconut water (& she always has some in the fridge), and cools down. People perk up pretty quick. It is when people become symptomatic and don't or can't do something about it that people die from this. We had crazy folks go hiking in triple digits and die this summer. You have to have some common sense.
In this case, she went inside and cooled down, drank something too, I'm sure.
But if you aren't used to it, it can be scary. And not to worry. I am sure the press will move us to the next big "outrage" here before you know it.

That's what my hair looks like after walking around Busch Gardens on a summer day...sweating my patootie off, lol. Reporter on CNN just said it's very hot, humid and muggy and she was at the event for an hour and a half.

(9,474 posts)the heat and humidity combined. What was the heat index today? When I was a Navy nurse on active duty at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort, S.C., we used to get Marine Corps recruits who were suffering from heat exhaustion/stress/stroke on a regular basis. The problem was(is) so great that USMC Paris Island has strict rules on when they are allowed to train recruits in hot weather. If the heat index is too high, all outdoor physical activity is suspended.
Heat exhaustion/stroke is a serious condition which, left untreated, can lead to death in a matter of hours. Treatment includes, but is not limited to: removing the patient from the heat/humidity and placing him/her in a cool environment, gradual cooling (I understand they are no longer using the ice baths we used when I was there), and re-hydration.
I personally witnessed one recruit with a core temp of 108 on arrival at the ER have a heat stroke. Although this young man lived, he had residual problems, including a speech impediment. Needless to say, he did not become a Marine.
People who are prone to heat exhaustion should never expose themselves to conditions which may precipitate a heat related incident.

(15,805 posts)Happen to me as young woman while mucking out my horse barn on a very hot day. I passed out, luckily inside the barn rather than outside under the hot sun. No one was around to help so I used a water bucket to wet my head and clothes to cool off until I could stagger back to the house. I went to my family doctor because I was still weak and throwing up even water. He said I had a heat stroke. I was sick for days afterward. For several years following, any extended exposure to heat or hot sunlight triggered a return of those symptoms.
Now I'm older, and it seems that I'm more susceptible to hot weather. I can understand how summer heat and humidity would affect someone, especially when they are wearing dark business attire like Hillary was, with multiple layers of fabric that prevent the body from cooling.

(85 posts)50 years old, great shape. It was winter. He went to the bathroom and I found him on the floor sweating and unable to get up. Turns out he had worked out earlier and was dehydrated. He was fine the next morning. If I took a video at that moment it would have scared the crap out of anyone. I also sometimes get dizzy when I stand up too fast and have to sit back down. Since she's a woman and a candidate she will probably have to give a little more reassurance. But she sat through 14 hours of Benghazi testimony and I understand she does a lot of yoga. So this episode by itself looks like nothing.

(65,616 posts)Why are you listening to Foxnews!? Blech.
ProudToBeBlueInRhody
(16,399 posts)Someone claimed Hillary fainted on Twitter. I saw it was Fox News as a source and thought bullshit.
I come here and see nothing. A good 15 minutes after it was reported.
So I posted this. I figured someone was watching the ceremony on MSNBC that could debunk it swiftly.
As I sometimes expect from DU, it seemed like a lot of silence, as if, nothing to see here because the news isn't really something we want to talk about.
I wanted to know if she was all right. That was my absolute first concern. Was she okay?
You can dismiss it all you want, but it was some sort of medical episode. If someone has heat exhaustion, YES they need immediate attention. As someone CPR certified, that's a fact. I'm glad she is now okay.
But forgive me for being concerned. Now I know Hillary danced an Irish jig into the van and was simply hurrying to her prearranged brunch with Chelsea according to DU.
Have a nice day.

(65,616 posts)She fainted, people do that. Medical episode? I guess if you want to call it that. And now you know Foxnews is bullshit just like you thought.
