It positions her well for a response whenever Trump tries to use it against her in the debate:

"Well, unlike my opponent, I apologized for my words and actions. Has he said he was sorry to disabled people for mocking them, to Muslims for proposing a watchlist for them, to Mexicans for calling them rapists and murderers? ... "

and them provides an opening on further discussion of what exactly IS "deplorable" about certain Trump supporters, because the media seems determined to ignore that.
