you could divide Trump supporters into two groups...not mentioning any percentages. No one seemed to disagree or mind that characterization. It was using the term "half" that made people take notice, even though it is probably correct, it's smart of her to try and leave it more vague.

The amazing thing is that Trump says 20 much more outrageous things every day...and the press is paying attention to this??!!!

but the gist of it was after a "generalistic" slam there were some who were offended, at which point the person making the slam said words to the effect " I have displayed a general garment and YOU have declared that it fit you, hence you have no cause for anger at me!"
Sorry I couldn't recall exactly where it came from.

There is a dinner, and a guest finds a comment by Paul Atreides insulting. His mother replies:

“My son displays a general garment and you claim it’s cut to your fit?”

Not surprising as I have read Dune(1) many times over the years. Yesterday was my 67th birthday (I used it for 52 yrs without causing it any harm; W steals the presidency and f***s it up for eternity) Probably would have come to me sometime this week! Edit to add my youngest daughter was named after Paul's mother Jessica.

I sure as hell don't.

As far as the Trump goons and the MSM go, "regret" will be the only operative word in that statement. I wish she had stuck with every word of her original comments---they were forceful, they were well-chosen, and most of all, they were true.

was quit clear last night when she said it...another day in the news for Hillary - yes, a good day indeed....

And no. it isn't an apology...it is clarity.....stepping back a bit, maybe - but she has the mic...now!

She keeps saying "she was wrong"...so many times. No, she was NOT wrong. I read the first two lines and have no patience to read the rest, like most people - and go, there she goes again..always apologizing, always misspeaking, always using poor judgement. That's just not the way this works.

I have been able to 'weed out' those who support tRump... good riddance to bad rubbish.

I used to tolerate their 'opinions' - but no more. I'm Wide Awake.

This is a carefully scripted event, let's say Hillary would have said some or many trump supports are deplorable, press would not have picked it up, she intentionally made this gaffe to bring back focus on trump campaign and the hate they are spreading. Well done...

I don't think it does that at all. I think it doubles down and pointedly refuses to apologize for anything but the percentage.

I am proud to see her call a spade a spade.

the first few sentences were the walk back.

NOW, for a democrat, this is not bad in that regard.

But, she should have just said she omitted "give or take" as in 50% give or take, and then said the rest.

STFU Donny has been rollin' like this for over a year now. Good on Hillary - the media can't get enough. To the previous observations, Hillary should not apologize nor say she was wrong. But she's learning (and maybe so are the Democrats?).

She should say IMO -" . . . of course I don't know whether half of his supporters have deplorable views. Maybe it's more like 70% or maybe it's only 40%. That's not the point. tRump has surrounded himself with right wing racists and xenophobes and has attracted the support of white supremacists, the nazi party, the kkk and armageddonists. You know - people who are wrong. He has no shame. And neither do his supporters."

But it' a start.

BUT, the alt right knows Obama and the rest of us try to play chess while they are playing dirty as hell. ANY apology is seen as weakness, ANY, so yes, we might have to trade halos for horns.

She could have said the exact same thing while saying "the size of the group I'm talking about probably isn't half, but..."

Now she needs to double down on it so the "walkback" isn't the story. Keep fighting!
