1. Putin is white, male, and brutally authoritarian,

and it's the last of those that seems to energize a lot of Trump's supporters.

This is the "Let him die!" crowd, the people Trump was pandering to when he suggested he would "bomb the shit" out of ISIS.

That impulse toward authoritarianism is as unsettling as it is morally appalling. It's Trump's long suit.

I believe they think we all must be governed by a strict authoritarian figure, a daddy who used to tell everyone what to do and punish harshly if they disobeyed.

I just don't see why Libertarian-leaning republicans want a big daddy when they all hate big gubmint.
