Boehner, McConnell Refuse To Take the President's Election Night Call

Boehner, McConnell Refuse To Take the President's Election Night Call

by gloriasb at the Daily Kos

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/08/1159300/-The-first-lesson-of-the-second-term

"SNIP.........................................

If, before election day, Barack Obama still maintained any illusions about the possibility of working with Congressional Republicans in a second term, he's got to be over that now, because...

When Obama tried to do the gracious thing--calling Republican leaders John Boehner and Mitch McConnell after accepting Mitt Romney's concession--not to gloat, but probably planning to say something like, "I look forward to working with you," both of those "leaders" REFUSED TO TAKE HIS CALL.

From the New York Times:

After his speech, Mr. Obama tried to call both Mr. Boehner and the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, but was told they were asleep.

Yeah, yeah, it was after midnight, and it had been a long day, and they're not so young any more, and they were "asleep." But even if the person answering the phone was Boehner's or McConnell's spouse. And even if it was a flunky or a bodyguard or a high-ranking aide, who had instructions not to wake the guy up: It was the President of the United States calling, for Pete's sake.

forward wherever they can. I hope President Obama kicks their sorry asses.

That is a snub, a willful insult, a deliberate, in-your-face political slap of epic proportions. And I hope that President Obama sees it for what it is and understands that nothing has changed for those guys, and that there is no way to work "with" them, because their immature, despicable, rude, disrespectful election-night behavior says it all.

It's so entrenched now in our culture that we are starting to call our own political party as the "Democrat" Party. The right wing has been calling us that as a reference to "rats". I will not go there. It's not It's the Democratic Party. We are so bombarded with lies and shaded misleading stories that reality is just the convenient story they want to tell that day.

Boehner and McConnell are caught up in the lies, so they just take their orders and their paycheck from Big Business.

Let's not forget that Boehner was the guy passing out checks on the floor of congress from the tobacco companies right before a vote on tobacco.

That's a new one on me! Pretty lame.
Their party is in its death throes, thank God. They've pushed us so hard and have become so bizarre that 'normal' Americans are shaking their heads incredulously. Their agenda is disastrous--not something anyone in his/her right mind would even consider. They have failed and that's something about which I can comfortably gloat! It will be entertaining to watch where the buffoons go from here.

If it were not intended for being made public, you can be sure the White House would never have said a word.

If Bonehead and Yertle the Turtle thought they were being cute in snubbing the President, they will have plenty of time to rethink the wisdom of that decision.

Disagree, give mcconnell & boner the benny of the doubt on this, they just lost bigtime & were possibly manic depressed, and I think it certainly COULD be perceived as gloating by them. If THEY had called the president to congratulate & had been rebuffed it would be different, but I think it somewhat awkward for obama to call them at that time, just to hope for, well, hope & change.
Maybe they were asleep, or in no condition due drink to talk; or feeling awful (likely) so I can't fault either for not accepting obama's call.
What were they supposed to say to obama, Hey Congratulations Man, you did it! -- with enthusiasm? while being down in the dumps? They might have declined so as not to be offensive, don't blame them either.
Who cares anyway, won't matter much.

have respect for the office they once held, they would set these bastards straight. You
can hate the man but you respect the office. If Democratic members of Congress were
treating a republicon president like this, Carter, Clinton and especially Obama would be
personally offended.

That is one of the differences between Democrats and Republicons. While I may disagree
with a number of our Congress people, they have never insulted the President on a personal
level. Can you imagine if this had happened to Bush in 2004? It's inconceivable.

Christie had a regular, daily call to Obama to discuss the Sandy aftermath and congratulated him in that context. It wasn't a slur of Romney.
