Dallas Morning News: Trump 'does not deserve your vote'

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/294565-dallas-morning-news-trump-does-not-deserve-your-vote

The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday declared Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president, writing in an editorial that the GOP nominee does not represent Republican ideals.

The newspaper has endorsed the GOP's nominee for president every year since 1964. It said that for generations, it had been clear what it meant to be a Republican: "A belief in individual liberty. Free markets. Strong national defense."

"But what does it mean to be a Republican today? With Donald Trump as the party's new standard-bearer, it's impossible to say." Trump "thumbed his nose at conservative orthodoxy altogether," the Morning News wrote, adding that the GOP nominee has been "at odds with nearly every GOP ideal this newspaper holds dear."

"Donald Trump is no Republican and is certainly no conservative."

Probably not, but it's faintly possible. We'll see how badly Trump fails during the rest of the campaign.

In fact what exactly is 'liberty?" I keep hearing this from repubs and their ilk. But what is it?

Not asking you, necessarily, MM, but... if you can tell me what they are thinking, I am all ears.

"Personal liberty." What bullshit. It means you should be able to drill for oil in the Grand Canyon if you want to, but who you can marry, whether or not you can use contraception, who you can love, and what kind of sex you can or cannot have -- not so much.

the economy

Notice that people who go on about individual liberty also talk about protecting 'our freedoms'

Not freedom in general, which every one should enjoy, but rather 'our freedoms', as priveledged American white people

Freedom applies to the general welfare of the people as per the contituted role of government

Freedoms, on the other hand, are merely indiviuated priveledges and powers elevated to the level of rights

It's a subterfuge to replace the word rights with the word freedoms

There is a reason why the Bill of Rights is not called the Bill of Freedoms because it is in virtue of rights that freedom is guaranteed

Right wingers don't like the universality of rights because the general welfare and freedom of all Americans is not in their interest

has refused to endorse Trump. That's a big deal, actually. As we move closer to the election, it's things like this that will ensure a victory for Hillary Clinton. Such non-endorsements will also depress Republican turnout, which is even better for down-ticket races.

Everything that doesn't help Trump helps Democrats.

What does it mean to be a Republican?

........................Even before Trump's name reached the top of the GOP presidential ticket, the party was pulled in different directions. Many Republicans held fast to the good-governing principles of the past, while a growing wing of the party yanked hard from the right to force a conscripted definition of conservatism.

Inexplicably, the presidential candidate who emerged from that ideological tug of war was the one who thumbed his nose at conservative orthodoxy altogether. Trump is — or has been — at odds with nearly every GOP ideal this newspaper holds dear.

Donald Trump is no Republican and certainly no conservative.

Individual liberty? Trump has displayed an authoritarian streak that should horrify limited-government advocates. This impulsive, unbridled New York real estate billionaire and reality-TV star wants to deport people who were born in the U.S. and don't meet his standard for loyalty. He has proposed banning all Muslims from entering the country, even those escaping Islamist rule, and won't rule out creating a database of Muslims already living here....................................................................................

bromance is going to make this an historic US landslide election

The Dallas Morning News is not the Washington Post When the major Texas conservative paper in the most conservative part of Texas says no to a Republican nominee that means it is over

The Dallas MN knows they can't walk that back if Trump wins So they are throwin down the gauntlet. It's meet me in the street at high noon. No quarter asked or given

That's about as damning as it could be. And thoroughly earned by The Donald, who presumably is job interviewing for a new reality TV job. Makes sense--far less work. Pays more, too. And for Donald Trump it's always about the money.

'He does not deserve your vote' should be a chant straight through until election day!
