(165 posts)that immigrants gain acceptance here, not by assimilating, but by bringing their culture with them. Give me more Mexican food and music (and fewer home grown conservatives, please.)

(557 posts)...And pretty much every small town has a Asian food place or two. They're staffed mostly by Asians, usually which is funny, as the towns are pretty much all white. Where do they all live and go to school?
I tell my husband they're colonizing the state, one small town restaurant at a time.

(12,904 posts)I'm thinking pulled pork tacos with apple pico de gallo and jack cheese. Fruit salsa with cinnamon chips. Honey lime crema.
Crap, why did I do that?
Edit to add: I don't have a taco stand near by, so I have to make my own.

(40,416 posts)When one goes to Hell, the devil offers one a choice, death or chichi. The guy next to you chooses chichi where upon he is stuffed into a barrel, raped by rabid monkeys, set on fire and rolled down a mountain into a pit of boiling dung.
Then the devil offers you the same choice, death or chichi. Seeing how bad chichi is, you choose death.
The devil responds, "Death it is. But first... Chichi!"
Sorry. Couldn't resist. And homage to Milf Cardinal Milfington's Rapture Watch from Morning Sedition with Marc Maron and Mark Riley, the best political framing ever on any media.

Not to be confused with the next mornings explosion when you over did the real spicy salsa.

(81,267 posts)The food is GREAT! It's convenient as all-get-out. The prices are easy. The taste is delicious. The quality is fresh and pristine. The proprietors are friendly and courteous. The service - almost literally immediate. The congeniality - TOTAL, even if you don't speak Spanish. There seems to be perpetual construction in our neighborhood. It's never-ending. Very weary-making. BIG pain in the ass and lots of traffic disruption. But that also means the food trucks come around every day. These folks work HARD! I think the whole taco truck thing is INGENIOUS. What a great idea, and you can't help but admire the work ethic. I think it was the Washington Post that figured up - if indeed there were taco trucks on every corner, that could realistically mean more than NINE MILLION jobs.
And they always serve you with a smile! Having frequented many of them myself, I know this. It's also fun for me when I'm dining with my husband. He's fluent in Spanish and inevitably they'll get into extended conversation with him. They appreciate it greatly when an Anglo customer speaks Spanish. I wish I was better at it, myself. I do try, though. Seems to me like it's a simple sign of respect.
All I think of when I see a taco truck is - "Mmmmmm - YUM (ooh, I think I'm hungry...)!"
