2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid anyone catch the last 5 minutes of Morning Joe, when Nancy Gibbs, Editor in Chief of
Time Magazine discussed an article in their current issue which reports on Trumps hiring of undocumented workers to build Trump Towers and lying about it in the past. The article findings were that Trump knowingly had hired undocumented Polish workers and not only knew that they were undocumented but purposely sought them out. Gibbs got exactly 30 seconds to make her point and then Plagiarizer and Lead flunkie Mike Barnicle jumped in with a question about the cover story on that issue about remarkable families. He then mentioned that Trumps family could be considered remarkable as well. Jeeeezzzzz. Nothing else was said about the findings related to Trump or the undocumented workers.
I know DU people here know about the history of Trump Tower and his hiring of undocumented Polish workers exposing them to asbestos and lying about it but the majority of Americans are not followers of DU which makes it even worse when Mika covers up this finding and doesn't even discuss it. They immediately spend the last few minutes of the segment discussing remarkable families.
Also, can someone please tell me when Trump held his last press conference. The media is fixated on the fact that its been more than 250 days since Hillary held a Press Conference with the Media, but I couldn't find any evidence of Trump having held a Press Conference with the Media in the last year. Since short interviews with a single member of the media doesn't count for Hillary, I assume that call ins to Fox and Morning Joe shouldn't count for Trump either as a Press Conference. Can someone help me out here? At least Hillary doesn't corral the media at her rallies, control their every movement, and call them liars.
I hate to say it, but I'm about ready to borrow a phrase from Trump and start referring to the media as the crooked media. Their reporting on the Clinton Foundation has been so disingenuous. First the Boston Globe Editors right an editorial stating that if Clinton wins they should stop accepting foreign donations and consider shut down the Clinton Foundation. Bill Clinton comes out the next day and says that if Hillary wins they will turn it over to someone else to manage as was suggested. Then Morning Joe and the rest of the media spend last week and this week questioning if it is not right for them to be managing the foundation when she's president, why was it okay to do so when she was Sec of State; and the crooked media spends day after day repeating this line.

(47,501 posts)but I was just reading about the Polish Brigade in David Cay Johnston's book. He had these undocumented workers demolishing a building without power tools, hard hats, or face mask. He paid them $4 to $5 a hour and no overtime. They often didn't even get paid their regular salaries in spite working 80 plus hours a week. This is a disgusting, vile man.

(5,737 posts)Those guys work in horrific conditions and with no labor laws or worker safety rules being enforced. They are even using some on refinery work.

(47,501 posts)to undocumented workers, because they are afraid to complain. With the Polish workers, however, there was a lawsuit against Trump that went on for almost two decades. Eventually they won. Have to wonder though, how many of the workers ended up with work related illnesses from breathing all that asbestos?

(56,828 posts)the people that hire them aren't worried about being caught and/or are wealthy enough that their high powered attorneys can get them off with a slap on the wrist - while a $10,000 fine would be crippling to most Americans, a multi-millionaire would pay it like a regular person pays a late fee at the local library.

(47,501 posts)Of course, unlike most wealthy people, Trump fought the lawsuit tooth and nail. He is incapable of admitting he's wrong and seems to actually enjoy the fight.

(47,501 posts)redeeming quality, but everything I read or hear indicates there may not be any. I can't stand GW Bush, but he has a few positive attributes. Don't think that is true of Trump, which makes you wonder what do his loyal followers see in him that we don't?

(47,501 posts)I'd say he loves his mother, but I'm inclined to think he's more afraid and intimidated by her. Guess I'll just stick with the dogs.

(47,501 posts)I hadn't thought of that one! Very diversified corruption, something that is really quite rare in politics.

(719 posts)...only because all waiting room TV's were on FOX "news". (Filled out a suggestion/complaint form about that!)
The only comment in the waiting room was "That guy scares the hell out of me!", and a few people agreed.
