Why is it that the Democratic Party isn't going after Trump for his stupid attacks on Hillary?

It seems everyone is just ignoring him, so he gets his lines repeated again and again. Carville's statement about people dying if the Clinton Foundation shuts down was powerful but he's not in office. When Elizabeth Warren jumps on Trump's buffoonery it is heartening to all of us. When Al Franken takes him on Trump looks like just the insanity it is.

Where IS everybody? Where are the Democratic senators who have clearly stated they back her? Where are those who have worked for her and Bill in the past who actually know how hardworking and healthy and above board she is? Where are the Democrats who are horrified at the very idea that someone like Trump, who knows NOTHING about how any facet of government works, could get into office? I know they exist. Why aren't more people who aren't in the campaign challenging Trump's flip-flops, his phony health report, his damned taxes? Where are the African American and Latino senators who could be saying "We aren't stupid; we don't believe for a second this supposedly new version."

If they're biding their time it's driving me nuts and I wish they'd get on it. I can't stand too much more unchallenged Trump.

The question actually ought be framed as "Do you want to be a President or a mud wrestler. Clinton is very Presidential, Trump is not. And we don't want Clinton to become less so. Stay out of the mud and you don't get despoiled.

Don't take that to mean I'm curled up in the fetal position. It would be nice to see some unity though.

Mass. Delegation Demands End to GOP's Abusive Subpoenas of State Attorneys General
Aug 4, 2016
Washington, D.C. -- The Massachusetts Congressional delegation is urging U.S. House Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith to cease House Republicans' blatant abuse of congressional subpoena authority in an effort to deny the causes of global climate change. In July, Smith issued subpoenas to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, and eight environmental organizations, claiming that a coordinated environmentalist plot exists to deprive corporations of their First Amendment rights. The attorneys general are investigating whether Exxon Mobil Corporation violated state fraud laws by intentionally misleading the public-including investors-with respect to the impacts of climate change on its business.

In a letter demanding an end to the Republicans' overreaching subpoenas, the Massachusetts delegation asserted that such abuse of authority was unprecedented and maintained that it "plainly infringes upon state law functions and oversteps the jurisdiction granted to Congress in the Constitution."

The delegation wrote:

"State and federal courts - not Congressional Committees - are the proper arbiters of legal disputes between state attorneys general and private corporations. Congressional subpoenas should not be used as a vehicle for misguided and likely unconstitutional political tactics that could permanently harm the reputation of this body and undermine states' abilities to carry out necessary functions.

"The Science Committee lacks jurisdiction over any of the relevant issues raised in this case, including state securities laws and your purported concerns about the ‘First Amendment rights of companies.' The dispute in question is not a scientific one; it is a legal question about whether Exxon misled its investors and consumers. This dispute has no relevance to the Science Committee or its legislative or oversight jurisdiction."

Full text of the delegation's letter can be found here.

I won't stop crawling the walls until Hillary is declared the undisputed and absolute winner of this election.

A Democratically controlled Senate would be nice too.

Best wishes.

...like a good poker player. The Democrats want the whole pot--the House and the Senate as well as the presidency. But if they reveal their strategy now--change minds in early September--Trump & Co and other republicans can counter that and change minds back again in October. They're waiting, I'm guessing, till they can change minds and have those changed minds walk into the voting booths, not be open to being changed back. Also, Trump & Co. keep showing off all their tricks and attacks and weaknesses. They keep giving the Democrats more and more fodder. The more Trump & Co give democrats, the more ammunition they'll have in late Sept/Oct to sweep out republicans on all government levels along with Trump.

I hope (and I think) I'm right here. That the Democrats and Hillary are playing the long game. Keep your cards close to the vest, and don't let anyone know what you have or what you're doing until you can win it all.

And yes, I know that makes this all very hard to watch. The long game isn't easy to play; it takes nerves of steel. And it's especially hard on those of us on the outside who don't know what's being planned. If you're not already working for Hillary's campaign, that might help. Doing something is always better than watching from the sidelines.

There are huge numbers who would rather not deviate from vital GOTV activities in order to engage with those repeating the inanities. It takes longer to build the house when you have to stop to explain and justify every board, every nail.
