Why Can't Hillary Work Miracles?

A few loaves and fishes multiplied, some instant relief from deadly illnesses, and things like that would show that she truly, truly cared. Maybe she could part the waters down in Louisiana or something. Lower the Earth's temperature a few degrees. Is that so much to ask?

Would that do? Would that convince people that she's the best choice in this election? Would even miraculous powers bring her support?

In many ways, that's what it seems like some people are demanding. She should wave her hand and get progressive bills through congress, solve unemployment and put an end to climate change. Speak the right words and make all the guns and rage disappear instantly. Solve poverty, hunger, racism, and all those things, and do it right fucking now! Somehow. Doesn't matter how. She just needs to do it.

Funny thing, though: There was this guy who was supposed to have done miracles like that. There's a whole big book talking about it. And what happened to that guy, according to that book? They killed him. They didn't make him Caesar or anything like that. So it is written. They killed him. Of course, we don't really know what happened 20 centuries ago. The book was written much later, and by people who didn't see any of it. But, it didn't turn out well and didn't solve any of those big problems, either.

Candidates can never do enough, but we think they should. Candidates cannot work miracles, but we expect them to, for some inexplicable reason. We still have to vote in elections, though, and we get what we get. With luck and great voter turnout, we can get the better of the two realistic options we are offered every four years. But, we never get those miracles, it seems. Yet, we still seem to expect them from our candidates.

We're funny monkeys, we humans are. We can see what's actually possible, but we ignore that and demand that those seeking election to high office promise to work miracles. We know in advance that they can't and won't, but we insist that they tell us they can and will. We often don't make much sense in election years, it seems to me.

Two people are trying to become President. Others are in the race, but nobody believes that any but the two major party candidates can win the election. So, we have to choose the one who is better. That's always our choice. No miracles. Just an election that will influence our course to some degree for a few years. Seems simple enough to me.

So, let's do this thing again. Let's elect the better candidate. Let's get others to help us do that. Let's not expect miraculous feats from our candidate. We'll be disappointed if we do that. Let's expect, instead, some progress in directions that are important. We can get that. We can, if we elect the better candidate. Let's do that, OK? No miracles. Just better outcomes in an imperfect world. We should expect that, and we can get that.

Yeah, well he couldn't work miracles either. No one in their right mind can expect one man or one woman to effectuate major changes in the face of the obdurate resistance of the GOP.

Go Hillary!

to perform the kind of miraculous change he was advocating for during his campaign.

Dreams are expensive to realize.

It is about people's expectations that exceed elected official's capabilties. People expected both Bernie and Hillary to do things that are impossible to accomplish. Then, when they fail, they are attacked. No President can do what cannot be done.

Reality is what it is. We vote for the best possible outcomes. If we work hard, we get some of what we want. None of us ever gets all that we want. Reality.

"Understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain, when I'm in the White House, I'll put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself. I'll walk on that picket line with you, as president of the United States of America. Because workers deserve to know that someone's standing in their corner"

A group of Democratic lawmakers in Wisconsin blocked passage of a sweeping anti-union bill Thursday by ignoring orders to attend a vote. Instead, they left the state to force Republicans to negotiate over the proposal.

I guess it really has nothing to do with the candidate,or what they say.

But some are not voting for her and are only here cause problems. You can't convince those who don't want to be convinced.

because as much as some won't like it, there will be times where compromise has to be reached, in order to reach at least a PART of any of our goals.

It keeps resetting and I can't watch the Olympics.

I blame Hillary. And Obama, because.

Really, I know it's been storming here for the last few hours but is it too much to ask that my Roku works always? Is it?
