Hillary Clinton on Zika

Hillary Clinton is a grandma and she loves babies. Donald Trump kicks babies out of his campaign events. Hillary has held many campaign events with babies and young children in attendance. The zika virus can lead to heartbreak, and it has. A baby girl died. Hillary heard about it, and she has something to say before this crisis outgrows all manageability.

Mobilizing to address Zika

For months, experts have warned that Zika — a disease linked to devastating birth defects — would spread to the United States this summer, and now it has. There were nearly 1,900 confirmed cases across the continental U.S. as of early August, and now we’ve seen the first locally transmitted cases in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami.

I know how scary that must be for young parents, particularly those who are expecting. This week, a father wrote to me to say that his wife is 23 weeks pregnant and they are alarmed because her office is in Wynwood. And yesterday, we heard the heartbreaking news that a baby girl born with Zika-related birth defects died in Houston.

I had the chance to visit the Borinquen Medical Center in Miami yesterday, where physicians, nurses, and researchers are on the frontlines working to prevent and treat Zika. It’s a serious challenge — one that we need to mobilize to address before the virus spreads further.

Gov Scott don't care as well.

Since our lovely corporate media is always fixated on T-rump favors, and continually bashing HRC, there no is very little to nada mention of Zika. Same shit happened - Aids. Now I pray that Zika does not become full blown like Aids did, but alas, GOPers refuse to give the proper funding, if any at all, and Florida right now has a frightening amount of Zika cases but a-hole Scott funding is inadequate.

CBS did something on it last week, yet that is nowhere near enough.

Florida

The Florida Department of Health has identified an area in one neighborhood of Miami where Zika is being spread by mosquitoes. This guidance is for people who live in or traveled to this area any time after June 15 (based on the earliest time symptoms can start and the maximum 2-week incubation period for Zika virus).

Pregnant women and their partners
•Pregnant women should not travel to this area.
•Pregnant women and their partners living in or traveling to this area should follow steps to prevent mosquito bites.
•Women and men who live in or traveled to this area and who have a pregnant sex partner should use condoms or other barriers to prevent infection every time they have sex or not have sex during the pregnancy.
•All pregnant women in the United States should be assessed for possible Zika virus exposure during each prenatal care visit.
•Pregnant women who live in or frequently travel to this area should be tested in the first and second trimester of pregnancy.
•Pregnant women with possible Zika exposure and signs or symptoms of Zika should be tested for Zika.
•Pregnant women who traveled to or had unprotected sex with a partner that traveled to or lives in this area should talk to their healthcare provider and should be tested for Zika.

I know, the GOP doesn't give a rats ass about it. I guess they think they and their daughters are exempt from mosquito bites. The more I read about the birth defects the more horrified I become.

Once we cannot replace ourselves with offspring capable of living to reproductive age, we are over as a species in less than a century.
