2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGary Johnson really having an impact against Trump!
http://www.electoral-vote.com/More Republicans are considering Gary Johnson because they find Trump too vile to vote for but swear they won't vote for Hillary. Hey, ok with me - go ahead and vote Gary Johnson.
Look at some of the states where Hillary isn't solidly blue (like New York or California)
Ohio: Clinton 42%, Trump 39%, Johnson 10%
Arizona: Clinton 43%, Trump 42%, Johnson 5%
Florida: Clinton 43%, Trump 41%, Johnson 6%
Georgia: Clinton 43%, Trump 38%, Johnson 9%
Iowa: Clinton 38%, Trump 38%, Johnson 12%
Wisconsin: Clinton 42%, Trump 33%, Johnson 10%
Personally if Trump balks at ANY of the debates, Hillary should still have the debate but invite Gary Johnson and even Jill Stein. Republicans should see that Johnson is a viable option to Hillary (and Jill will probably come off loonier that before with her anti-science rhetoric).

(15,369 posts)any challenger who is not polling at 15%. Period. It would be a terrible precedent to set for future elections.
Gary Johnson will get traction in a lot of "red" states in the West without Hillary's help, and he will pull votes mostly from Trump in those states.
Hillary has run a superlative campaign very well so far and I have full confidence in her ability and that of her surrogates to continue such.

(95,337 posts)it's a way for Hillary to take the high road.
Ok I can understand why not to include Jill Stein. Personally I think she's a nutjob anyways. But Johnson is polling strong and to have a debate with just Johnson should Trump refuse - it would show voters that Clinton isn't afraid to debate.

(15,369 posts)sane voter in the US who believes that Clinton is afraid to debate.
If Trump bags the debates, it will be clear to all except for his frothing-at-the-mouth supporters that HE is afraid. If he does, Hillary should use her time in ways that it will increase HER own exposure - not anyone else's.
Or perhaps she should take some well-deserved R & R. She's been campaigning her heart out since she announced her candidacy in 2015 and November is still some months away. I doubt that she will take a rest though. This is too important to her.
